The last time I got them all replaced was 2 months ago and now around 5 grommets are gone and about 3 are split. What is the cause of this? is it miss-hits?
Well, grommets aren't designed to last long, they're sacrifical to protect the string and racquet. The ones that tend not to last long are those that house more than one string (shared grommets), those where the string is at an angle to the grommet or those that have a knot tied against it. Having said that, they ought to last longer than 2 months provided they are not mistreated. Mishits don't really contribute to the durability of the gromments that much in my experience. But if you're constantly snapping strings through mishits and so require frequent restrings, then yes it can indirectly wear out the grommets.
Yeah I was thinking that, how can they be wrecked already I use Nanogy 95 and i asked for it to be strung at 25lbs I dont understand when you say mistreat? I dont chew them or anything haah. My strings have only snapped once before and that was because the grommet was in essence missing and the string was touching the rim and not the grommet
it also depends on the racket. some brands has poor quality grommets, some are better. recent Yonex / Victor grommets are fairly long lasting. the Taiwan made mid-end Yonex are so-so. Apacs has pretty bad grommets. i recently have to swap out around 15 grommets for a client's Apacs racket.
Are mybadmintonstore good grommets ? Because my grommets don't last more than Jason123 and I use mybadmintonstore grommets on Yonex high end models (I use it when Yonex grommets are break of course). If there are not good, what grommet should I buy ? Before I see this thread, I thank that my grommets durability is normal, I had no idea how many time they can last...
Well I had all my grommets replaced so they are all brand new and i dont know what brand they are or anything, but they are expensive it cost me £10 to get all the grommets replaced and now most are broke which makes me feel like I have been ripped off
so let me gather the facts. you have one racket. (you haven't told us which one) you said it has been re-strung once before. you said all the grommets were replaced. so here is my summary: so after your bought your racket new, has it strung, use it, some of the grommet went bad, cause the string to break. so you replace all the grommets (cost £10), restring (2nd string ever on this racket), and now after 2 months, all the grommets are broken again?
This is my racket http://www.badmintonalley.com/Yonex_Armortec_250_Limited_Edition_2008_Racket_p/racket- yonex-at250-ltd-2008.htm This is what it looked like before, but it essentially what it looks like now. With strings in of course
Grommets are supposed to be slightly elastic. Looking at the damaged grommets, you can see that they are very rigid or have hardened over time which makes them very brittle. Do you mishit a lot?
some qns how long have u been using this racket? only one? how often u restring? everytime u restring u change all grommets or change those cracked? i think u r more likely to have mis hits based on the videos of yr playing u have uploaded...
I been using this racket all my life which is about a year Ive only re stringed it once. I had to have all the grommets changed because they looked like the picture above I do miss hit sometimes but i dont get how that can affect the grommet, whats the science behind it
wait.. where did you get this racket from? and how much did you pay for it? i have seen a couple of AT250 before and they don't do that.
