Does anyone know what do the five stars printed on the right side of the Chinese player's kit stand for ? Is it symbolic to their national identity or simply represents the existing major titles captured by that player individually?

Lin Dan for one has all five stars printed on every kit he dons. Wang Yihan has two stars whereas Wang Shixian and Wang Xin both have only one star while the rest are blanked.
What major tournaments do they represent ?

For Lin Dan it could be his 4 WC + the olympic gold but it wouldn't make sense for the ladies. Maybe junior WC are included as well? But this is just a wild guess...

Should def be something to do with titles of some sort. Football teams and tennis players have similar inscriptions.

How they classify the count is a discussion point though...

I assume the four stars of equal size respectively stand for the honours they won from Sudirman, Thomas/Uber, World Championship and Asian Games. The Large Star stands for Olympics which is the biggest of the biggest titles badminton can offer.

It doesnt make sense either for Wang Shixian as she captured Sudirman Cup and Asian Games meaning she should be rated Two Star, the same as Wang Yihan.

Li Xuerui didnt receive any star awarded after winning the All England ..which means All England is considered a minor to the Chinese

from wang yihan's my olympic video, she did mention that d 2 stars on her shirt, 1 represented world cup (currently changes to superseries final)(she won in 2006), and d other 1 is from sudirman cup (i think its bcoz she's in d sudirman team, although she didnt play, but china won it).. from d interview, she said she hope 2 get d 3rd star from uber cup (but china lose it in 2010).. from wat i observed, i think she had d 3rd star (world championship) now..

Wang Yihan is Three-Star rated now with only Olympic and Uber Cup glory to chase...But why is World Cup more important than Asian Games, this is the second largest multisport event after Olympics...

Thanks for pointing that out Mr Obvious :). The question is what do the stars individually represent on the kit which is the main point of discussion here

Some suggests it symbolises the achievement in major tournament according to the players' discretion

Maybe it's just their status and standing within the team

The more stars, the more respected and most decorated and experienced players (I.e Lin Dan)
The least stars, recently promoted to the main team, and therefore looking up to their higher respected team members, less experienced than their teammates.

What Chen Jin/Chen Long ? I think Chen Jin had 2 stars or 4 stars (video is blurry)

I think you're right. I remember I watched a video explaining the design of the new Li-Ning shirts and they say something very similar. They also say Fu Haifeng's shirt is tailored for his left arm so that he smashes more comfortably.

wow, cool! so, LD is the only one who has 5 full stars?

i also think that AE worth 1 star.then the rest are for WC, uber/thomas, sudirman, and OG.

If Gao Ling is still around, she will also wear the kit with Five Stars as she also has won every major tournament in the world.

Let's have a look at the current WD pairs. Pretty Interesting

    2.jpg

Zhao Yun Lei (2 Star) and Tian Qing (rated only 1 Star)

    Untitled.jpg

Both are rated Four Star. Curiously, Yu Yang had won the Olympics before.
