It's more likely due to their club system though. If you look at the Osaka International Challenge you can see all the Japanese players who are very strong but haven't made their way out to Australia.
China, Japan, Korea and Denmark all have some form of club system. Malaysia doesn't. Go figure.

Yes, but the difference is KLRC is pretty much the only club in Malaysia, and they don't take in players that compete as part of the national squad. Indonesia also have a club system, but again it's different, to what Korea, Denmark, China and Japan have, as if they play for the club, they tend not to be in the national set up.
Maybe KLRC and clubs in Indonesia should organise player swaps and all their players can train under different clubs. It's detrimental to Malaysia not to have a club system In my opinion.

I might have to agree that Malaysia needs a club system to produce many different players who can be pretty decent, such as Japan, whose unknowns are definitely not any pushover...
Then the national body should choose players from the club based on their potential where they can train with better facilities
