ok. i ordered the hook/pick set. if it doesn't work at least it will be a good tool to threaten the kids.

I agree with the dental floss idea.
But I also have a little etching set from a local hardware store. It looks like a set of those picks dentists use to remove plaque. There are curved, bent and straight ends to them. They come in handy for clearing grommets, acting as a string mover and (occasionally) loosing a poorly-started knot.

That's very good idea Master Fidget. Please be careful not to prick the main string that is blocking the non-shared grommet.
