Anyone notice the new camera angle at this year's All England? It reminded me very much of the Spidercam used in so many sports now ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spidercam ) in that they are able to get a camera angle high above the action from just about anywhere in the stadium. Maybe they are actually using the Spidercam!

    Go to 22:10

Obviously this option is only available when only one court is being used as it could be a distraction if this camera were flying up above in them middle of a rally in the outer courts.

But it's a diagonal angle from high above, and you can really see the speed of the shuttle as well as the speed the players move out from both sides. I actually enjoyed this fresh new angle to be shown during some rallies compared to the more conventional one.

    Thoughts?

Watched on TV, but still not available to watch for me online, but if you are talking about the side angle then yes i agree it was a great angle and was much more representative of the game. I still feel though that it is a case of flick to a camera view then get back to the standard view as quickly as possible.

Absolutely loving the new angle. It is really good to see the willingness of bwf to improve public relation. One can ignore some minor technical problems or little unprofessional behaviour of the broadcast presentation by knowing that they are really doing things. Next steps should be:

involve these new camera angles in more events,
establish some sort of an objective/technical line judge (tennis)
rise overall broadcast quality to high definition

...while still presenting all these fantastic matches for free. Any kind of commercialism would hurt the progress of further establishing badminton all over the globe
