What are some shots that are effective in mixed doubles and level doubles? I am wondering this because it is harder to pull off deceptive shots because there a 2 people on each side of the court.
Best one I'd seen is in receiving low serve, fake a push straight to the server's body, but use only fingers, turn at the last minute to change the contact angle, pushing the return to the mid-court tramline.
^^ Or also when receiving a short serve, go wide with your body (which will wrong foot the server as he tries to follow you) then you change your racket face to hit to the other side to the mid alley.
^ Favourite shot. Does anyone have any videos that display good deceptive shots in doubles? plz post it
backhand corner, fake a smash down the middle but cut across the cork last minute to slice drop the bird cross-court (bonus points for dropping in the corner, within a 6"x6" box) won many matches with this shot as the last shot best used after making a series 70-80% smashes forcing the opponents deep in their defense (give them a false sense of security in defending the smash by dropping deep into the court)
okay lets talk counter - measures against decepticons: because I've ran into serious trouble with footwork and speed to catch those deceptive shots. Please don't tell me that footwork and speed is THE ONLY weapon, it is not, right?
the only sure way is to avoid over anticipating a particular shot... ie. don't over commit to any side until you see the direction of the bird leaving the racket and to make sure to split step just before the opponent hits the bird
And to try not to give your opponents the chance to play the deadly deceptive shots. You need to think backward what shot(s) you play to enable him to play that shot. Then avoid play the enabling shots. Also, increase the pace would reduce the time he has to use deception.
Split step and faster shuttles -- so far, easy to do. Backward induction ... uuh, raymond, sexy ... now you get me interested, say more!
