All the top international players seem to remove the leather/PU grip that comes with the racket when it's new. They never put the toweling or Grap over the original black Yonex grip, but directly over the wood.

Is there a big advantage to this method? I usually use Grap over the original grip because it provides a bit more cushioning. I've tried using Grap over the wood directly, but it's a little too hard and uncomfortable.

I don't know if it's an advantage to doing this.. I suspect that they remove the original grip so that it's not as thick when they put the towel grip on...that way it's their preferred grip thickness and they get the feel of the towel grip..

I guess it boils down to how thick you like your grip?:D
