That's a nice find. The kid is pretty good. Any idea how old he is? TH only smashed once at the kid and looked all sheepish and apologetic after that.
wow, that kid is good.. but of course TH is just playing around, I saw many chances for TH to smash but he didn't do it
Wow! I think the best shot from the kid was the cross court smash at 2:49. The sound, power, and angle on that! That made me quite wide eyed. Taufik would have had to do a dive to get to that smash, but of course he doesn't want to injure himself over an exhibition.
That's a great video. The thing I liked best about the kid is that he was quickly ready between points and if he lost a rally he made sure to get the shuttle right back to his opponent. Hope he goes far! P.S. In answer to madbad, he looks about 11 or 12 yo. Does anyone know for sure?
The title says elementary school kid. Yeah, Taufik had plenty of chances to smash it, but how many kids do you know who can smash past Taufik?
I noticed Taufik engaged in a few fast driving battles with the kid and I must say, the kid passed with flying colours.
very impressive indeed! but then also remember, when Taufik was at that age, he probably already gone to play in the later rounds of the 5 star events....
The focus of this video should be the boy not how strong Taufik would be if he smashed. Look at the boy's footwork, body coordination and racket skills. Even many senior professional players don't seem to do better than his.
That's not what I meant. The fact that he was the TOP SEED at the age of 17 for the Olympics shows that at a younger age, he must have been very accomplished at a young age to get that 1st seed.
#1 seed at the age of 19, at the 2000 Olympics. Born August 1981... and for jamesd20, TH won the Brunei Oen in 1998 at the age of 17...
cobalt, you may have the so-called 'facts' (and a calculator) on your side. But don't dismiss Stephen Colbert's 'truthiness': If it feels right in your gut then it must be true. My gut says that Taufik winning a senior open event at 14 yo is way too cool not to be true. So that is the 'fact' I shall remember and propagate forever more. ________ As for this kid he's playing, mark his name. He'll hopefully be on the pro scene soon.
He should be Shintaro Morita (middle) from Miyazaki, a 6th grader so 11/12 y.o. Seems to have lost at the QF at this season/year's National Elementary School championships in 3 sets. His victor losing to the eventual champion at SF in 21-19, 23-21.
Thanks fauci for that great video. That game gave the kid more inspiration to play than any other BAM, CBA or PBI can ever provide.
