In a seeded international tournament, is the 1st seed and 4th seed placed in the same half of the bracket, while 2nd and 3rd seed are in the same half?

    Or

1st and 2nd seed are in different half, 3rd and 4th will be drawn randomly to be placed in the top or bottom half of the bracket?

i think i know where this question originates from. ;)

here is the reference document from BWF, refer to page 10, 11 onwards, and look at the 3/4 seeds placement.

and esp regulation (on page 24):

12.9 The other seeds shall be dealt with taking regard of the requirements of Regulation 12.10.
12.9.1 Numbers 3 and 4 drawn by lot to the remaining two quarters of the draw.
12.9.2 Numbers 5 to 8 drawn by lot to the remaining eighths of the draw.
12.9.3 Numbers 9 to 16 drawn by lot to the remaining sixteenths of the draw.

Yes, what kwun said is correct. For badminton they are usually referred as 3/4 instead of 3rd and 4th seed. 5th-8th will be referred to as 5/8 so it is random unlike other sports.
