. Today, Tuesday 08-May-2012 (Melbourne Time), I have been given the betting odds for the Mens Singles Gold medal winner of the coming 2012 London Olympic Games. Here are the odds given; (1) Lin Dan 1.62 (2) Lee Chong Wei 2.40 (3) Chen Long 8.00 (4) Peter Gade 25.00 (5) Taufik Hidayat 25.00 (6) Lee Hyun Il 25.00 (7) Sho Sasaki 41.00 (8) Boonsak Ponsana 41.00 (9) Jan Jorgensen 51.00 (10) Kenichi Tago 71.00 What do our BCers think? Are these odds realistic? .
. There is no mention of Chen Jin. I would guess that he could be more than 200-to-1. Why? Because Lin Dan and Chen Long are ranked higher than him. .
. I believe that the odds given tells us that the main chances are; (1) Lin Dan (CHN) (2) Lee Chong Wei (MAS) (3) Chen Long (CHN) (4) Peter Gade (DEN) (5) Taufik Hidayat (INA) (6) Lee Hyun Il (KOR) .
once the definitive list has been published (ie. all national associations have submitted their final entries), then we will have a prediction thread for each event. before then, some entries are still speculative and non-final (like the lack of CJ here, for example)
Those are by bet365. For comparison, skybet odds: (1) Lin Dan 1.83 (2) Lee Chong Wei 2.38 (3) Chen Long 10.00 (4) Peter Gade 21.00 (5) Taufik Hidayat 26.00 (6) Lee Hyun Il 29.00 (7) Boonsak Ponsana 34.00 (8) Sho Sasaki 41.00 (9) Sung Hwan Park 41.00 (10) Jan Jorgensen 51.00 (11) Kenichi Tago 51.00 (12) Rajiv Ouseph 67.00
From a statistical analysis . From a statistical analysis, the betting odds tells us the chances of winning for the following players; (1) 38.17% for Lin Dan 1.62 (2) 29.41% for Lee Chong Wei 2.40 (3) 11.11% for Chen Long 8.00 (4) 3.85% for Peter Gade 25.00 (5) 3.85% for Taufik Hidayat 25.00 (6) 3.85% for Lee Hyun Il 25.00 (7) 2.38% for Sho Sasaki 41.00 (8) 2.38% for Boonsak Ponsana 41.00 (9) 1.92% for Jan Jorgensen 51.00 (10) 1.39% for Kenichi Tago 71.00 .
I dont want to jinx on any of my favourite Chinese players in WS, so betting on them is not an option. I certainly for sure do not want Nehwal to win it because she doesn't deserve it.. I will bet her to lose...
Betting for a player to lose? . Hahaha... I have never heard of betting for a player to lose. But to do it, I suppose you can ask someone to bet against you that a player will win. .
. I have searched for Badminton at skyBet, but I couldn't find it. http://www.skybet.com/ Could you please send me the link? .
Players urged to take heed of BWF's warning on betting . BWF coming down hard on players and officials gambling on their prospects at the 2012 London Olympics. Source: http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2012/7/13/sports/11648261&sec=sports The Star Online Friday July 13, 2012 KUALA LUMPUR: The gold medal winners may be anybody’s guess but you can bet on the World Badminton Federation (BWF) coming down hard on players and officials gambling on their prospects at the London Olympics. Through a memo released on July 9, the world body sent out a strong message against betting to all their members, players, coaches and court officials. And team manager Ng Chin Chai wants the Malaysian players to take heed. There has long been talk of players wagering on their matches although there have not been any official complaints or damaging reports linked to badminton unlike tennis and football. Walkovers are becoming a bane of badminton and many are linking it with match-fixing although there is no evidence to support it. Nevertheless, BWF are obviously taking the matter seriously. It is the first time that they have highlighted the issue loud and clear ahead of the Olympics by emailing the memo to their members and giving it prominence on their website. The memo was sent out by BWF’s director of operation Stuat Borrie. The major offences cited under BWF’s players’ code of conduct are: 5.1: Conduct contrary to the integrity of the game. 5.2: Wagers – wagering anything of value in connection with a tournament in which one will be, or is, competing. 5.3: Bribes or other payments – offering, giving, soliciting, or accepting, or agreeing to offer, give, solicit, or accept, anything of value to or from any person with the intent to influence any player’s efforts or the result of a match in any BWF-sanctioned tournament. Borrie’s memo also highlights that part of BWF’s general competition regulations, which states: “Wagering anything of value in connection with a tournament in which one will be, or is working at, in any accredited capacity may result in disciplinary proceedings including possible fines and suspension against coaches, team officials and technical officials who are reported for such a breach.” Chin Chai, who is also the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) secretary, strongly believes that none of the Malaysians are involved in betting. “I believe that they have not and will not be involved in betting or match-fixing as BAM have been taking good care of them financially,” said Chin Chai. “However, I would advise the players to be professional and earn an honest and clean income from badminton and not give in to temptation and greed.” .
