The Canadian Junior Championship just finished up in Moncton, New Brunswick. Soon-to-be Olympians Michelle Li, Alex Bruce were playing. And Toby Ng, sporting a jauntily-angled ball cap, was seen on the sidelines. The age divisions were from Under-14 to Under-23. The final day's results are on tournament software here. I witnessed some of the finals.... very good matches. Unfortunately my picture taking skills are very poor. Would love to see some photos by the better photographers who must have been there. Meantime, my few meager photos are coming up.....
Martin Giuffre beat Sergiy Shatenko 21-19 21-14. Shatenko came on court as cool as ice, but lost his composure in the second game. Giuffre rolled on to win with a pleasantly surprised smile on his face.
Michelle Li beat Phyllis Chan 21-18 20-22 21-5 For some reason -- and I know you girl-watchers will want to kill me for this -- none of the Li photos came out clearly. (or perhaps I'm just waiting for $$$ to post them )
Rachel Honderich defeated Brittney Tam in U16 WS, 21-19 21-14 . I was very impressed with Honderich's racket preparation and control. Hope for big things from her in the future.
Christin Tsai, a member of the national team, easily beat Josephine Wu. Here is Tsai sporting a wang lin hair-do. Or is is a TTY hairdo... I don't much follow WS - nor hairstyle fashions.
The Colisseum in Moncton was an intimate venue from a spectator point of view. Very few fans who weren't volunteer, coach or family. Nevertheless the small crowd was loud and appreciative. Hope the participants had fun. Last one from me before (hopefully) someone provides better. Nyl Yakura/ Qufei Chen beat Joshua Hurlbut-Yu/ Brittney Tam in U19 XD, 21-18 17-21 21-11.
