I think it is a defect in the racquet that causes this. I had this happen to me last year, exactly the same spot too. The sad part was, I had just gotten it off warranty and the Yonex would not replace it for me, thankfully the dealer did, definitely going back to them.

I am by no means nearly as strong as Sho Sasaki.

To talk about your point, my racquet did not have any string in it. I had a Yonex Voltric 80 CD coded.

I doubt I'd ever break a racquet on a forehand let alone a backhand! What racquet is he using btw?

 

I know in wilson blx rackets the shaft extends throughout the cone. maybe this makes it easier to bend?

I saw Xie Zhongbo do this to an NS9000X, also with a backhand, at the 2007 All England (SF, I think, against Clarke/Kellog). The look on his face... "whaaaaaaaaaaaa???"

It happened during a stick smash. Luckily my towel grip held the rest of the racket so that it did not fly around.

 

To me that makes sense, a fast acceleration and deceleration and the handle couldn't take the torque. What are you going to do about the racket, if it's in warranty I'm sure there would be not problems with getting it replaced. Failing that I guess it's either a new handle or maybe you could glue back together with a decent wood glue/resin?

 

The racket is out of warranty but I already ordered a replacement handle from MBS. Hopefully that works out just fine
Glueing it back together is no option because some parts of the handle broke off and even if it was possible I wouldn't do it. Then there will always be a weak spot at this position.

 

I use Gorilla Glue - seems to be stronger than the stuff they use at the factory.
