I had an interesting conversation with a friend about yellow and white nylon shuttles. I know most people here probably use feather, but for those who use nylon, do you know if there are restrictions at your club or association that do not allow the use of yellow nylon shuttles? Which do you prefer?

Can someone also confirm for me since it's been awhile, but in OFSAA (Ontario High-School level championships) do they use yellow or white nylon shuttles?

i dont think there are any rules between white vs yellow nylon shuttle. It really depends on the color of the walls and ceiling. Yellow came about because most gyms in north american schools are white or off white color. There are yellow feather shuttles too. I prefer white color in most situation, even with white wall.

If i need to settle down playing nylon birds, I prefer yellow most of the time.

Different than white feather shuttle, which has solid skirt (white feather), the white nylon shuttle's skirt has "holes" everywhere which easily light light passing through. Therefore, white nylong shuttle could be an nightmare under bright light / white wall combination.

In the typical highschool / church / community centers type of gyms, there isn't really much of a choice for me because the white nylon shuttles would literally disappear in mid-flight, and re-appear when it is only a few feet away from me. So in that case, yellow nylon shuttles are pretty much required. But in a proper badminton gym (such as ClearOne or VRC), I actually prefer white nylon shuttles. To me, the contrast with the green walls and the semi-diffuse lights are actually stronger with the white nylon shuttles.

But in ClearOne and VRC, they typically would use feathers anyhow I assume?

Do any other clubs out there who use nylon shuttles on a regular basis use anything OTHER than Mavis 300 or 350?

I have used white and yellow Mavis 300 and I don't think there are any material differences. In some halls it is easier to see the yellow ones.
Apart from the walls and ceiling, the lighting has an effect also.

Really depends on the background color, most of the time where i play it's dark green (the same color as a ping pong table) but from time to time they replace it with a white or cream background. That's where i use my yellow or brown shuttles, But i like white it's kinda like the standard color in badminton...

personally, I prefer the yellow nylon birds. They are more revealing to the eye when hit up high, where as a white nylon bird has a higher tendency to camaflouge itself under the light.

When playing with nylon, i prefer the green/yellow color...i am more accustomed to feather birds which aer usually white...and i guess it's just preference that i'm more comfortable with the green when playing nylon
