Sun Yu went up 99 places in ranking to 125.
Sun Yu needs only a quarter-final appearance at a GPG to crack top 100 but three final appearances at GPG level to crack top 50.
Given the number of players on CHN WS squad, this may not be easy. Sun Yu may still be a year away from regular SS tournaments.

In the final of Chinese National Team Championship, when her team was two matches down, Sun Yu stepped up and beat Wang ShiXian in a tough 3-game match. This should give the youngster tremendous boost in confidence.

Good, I see a bright future for Sun Yu. After her disappointment in the WJC despite beating Tai TY, followed by her qualification round defeat by Thai prodigy Jindapon, Sun Yu has shown resilience and determination to quickly earn her first international title in the Macau Open GPG.
Hope CBA gives her more opportunities to play and we might well see her rise to within top 10 in a year's time.

After scoring another win over Busanan Ongumrungpan, Sun Yu ended her Malaysian adventure with a loss to Tine Baun in the Round of 16. I am glad that Sun Yu got the chance to play Baun before her retirement. Baun has been the standard bearer for tall WS players. Now it's up to Sun Yu and Sindhu.
Sun Yu is transitioning from using her physical advantage to overwhelm fellow juniors like Busanan to a more controlled style in order to contend with the higher calibre players. There will surely be growing pains. Hope she will get more opportunities to find her way.

Sun Yu will play the Swiss Open as a qualifier.
Not a very good draw though. Good luck to her!

Yes, I'd love to see Sun Yu win her second GPG title and quickly rise to be the third CHN WS after LXR and WYH in the absence of WX for the time being. Not improbable nor wishful thinking on my part - she has the potential, the height and reach, and the right attitude as I see it. Of course, she is still young and has to continue working on her game and strengthen her fitness.

We may have to be a bit more patient with Sun Yu.
The Macao GPG title was for Han Li to take but she lost to Deng Xuan unexpectedly. Sun Yu was lucky there. The field is a lot stronger at the Swiss Open next week.
I hope that Sun Yu got a good look of Tine Baun's performance at AE. TB's court coverage is something that Sun Yu should definitely learn from.
