Whatever the outcome today or in the near future (possibly within one year ahead), just have patience with Sun Yu... she seems to have everything to become a great player incl. the physical factors (height, fitness) and the best training milieu of being a part of CHN squad. She probably just needs some more time to sharpen her capabilities and further tourney experiences to mold her into a dependable first class player!

Another Li Xuerui in making? Expect to see more from this young prodigy.

    From http://www.badzine.net/news/singapor...r-tommy/26023/
Sun Yu told Badzine: I couldnt adjust quickly after every time Ive made a mistake. I was being too conservative throughout the match. I was very patient and attacked well at the beginning, but I played in a hurry when my opponent leveled up the score. Even though Ive beaten some big names in this Singapore Open, overall, I am not satisfied with my performance. I expect I could have done better. My coming target is to be the champion in any tournament. I think there is still a gap between me and the top womens singles players. I need more on-court experience to close this gap in order to achieve my goal, added Sun.

Big words from the big little girl. Too bad that we won't see her for a while. Let's see if she can take advantage of the tired bodies from WC and get some good results in September.

In the latest BWF ranking, Sun Yu is up 28 places to 45. She needs one or two more good showings to avoid playing in qualifications.

Sun Yu will play in the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan, July 6-17 2013 where she will face challenges from Sung Ji hyun, Tai Tzu Ying, and Porntip Buranaprasertsuk, among others.

I just found out that at the 27th Summer Universiade in Kazan July 6-17 2013, in the Team Semifinal, CHN vs TPE, Sun Yu beat Tai Tzu Ying convincingly, 21-8 and 21-15, her third victory over Tai TY in as many encounters, the previous two being in the semifinal of the WJC'12 and QF of the SIN Open'13 SS.

Incidentally,as we've known, Sun Yu created a major upset in R2 of the aforementioned SIN Open'13 by overcoming the formidable Juliane Schenk in two straight sets before going on to eliminate Tai TY the next round, and was only stopped by her illustrious teammate LXR in the SF.

I daresay Sun Yu is on the rise, hopefully it's not premature for me to say so. Anyway, we'll have to wait until September and after for her to prove me right; the sooner the better if only because Wang Xin has been sidelined by injury since the LOG and Wang Lin has just retired, what with Wang Shixian still not quite out of her slump.

Default 2013 China Open, Round 16 vs Saina Nehwal

Finally, Sun Yu is showing promising signs. She displayed some Chen Long like quick moves on defence and started using her height for acute angle shots. Just hope that her body will hold up.

    spot on.

watching her play reminds me of Chen Long.

tall heavy build, steep powerful shots, very good coverage but don't show a lot of flexibility and dynamics, solid skills but no fancies.

maybe at this point she shows a little shakiness against good players. letting Saina craw back to level more than once.

while she has a couple of lethal killer shots, there is still a issue of consistency.

unfortunately, like CL, she is not exciting to watch. we need more of a LD or LCW type female players.

Unfortunately the coaches prefer to select such physical and grinding players when scouting them
from young as they are predictable and easier to coach as compared to naturally talented players
who can be off the cuff and subject to emotional swing and are unpredictable and inconsistent -
its a pity, more so in China where I think there must be many RI like players who are not chosen
by the China strict displinarian coaches.

Sun Yu is a tall, strong athlete, very suitable for 'power' play but not quick enough in her movement due to her physicality. Luckily she is able to time her attack reasonably well though I find her a bit short on stamina as the match wears on.

True, her strokes are effective,textbook-like,lacking in artistry, with little disguise, almost without deceptiveness. But considering she is still only 19 years old and just one-and-a-half years into her international career (her maiden adult tournament was the SCG Thai Open in June 2012 where she lost to Wang Lin in the QF in a 3-setter), I believe she will continue developing her game and should probably improve in other aspects and overall.

Actually another WS performance impresses me as much, Yao Xue's, not just because she thrashed Juliane Schenk. I noticed in G1, she was smashing her way through to victory but in G2 she varied her strokes more, played some rallies and clears instead of smashes to make it less predictable which succeeded in confusing and frustrating her opponent who capitulated in no time. What's more noteworthy, generally speaking, is that she has become less impatient, erratic and mechanical (or unthinking) in her game which used to be her main weakness, I thought.

Good find. Excellent picture quality. Too bad that the audio is a bit out of sync.

GuangZhou hired WYH to replace Sun Yu for the CBSL playoff. And WYH promptly lost to Liu Xin. Let's see if Sun Yu can take out WYH again for a sweet revenge.

Sun Yu is improving steadily, I can't wait to see her rise among the top players, the sooner the better.
