Why is doubles service area shorter ?
I am new to the game and I wonder about this. If anything I would expect the opposite, is long serve so dangerous at doubles for some reason ?

Well, the doubles service area is already wider than in singles, so the shorter back line makes up for that.
Beside different is beautiful. One of the many little quirks of this beautiful game.

In my opinion, it makes the game a faster pace than singles. Which is what I like to watch. Just my opinion though.

Or may it be because otherwise it would be too easy to overcome the receiver's attempt to attack the serve close at the net? I mean - you could just always flick serve to the base line, not so easy to smash that one down as compared to a shuttle that goes to the actual doubles' service line.

It would give too much of an advantage to the serving team. If the returner of serve stand forward - flick serve would always get clear or poor drop/smash server on good attack. If the server stand a wee bit further back - every low serve would have to be lifted, server again straight onto a good attack. Wouldn't work too much advantage.

Is there a separate thread on this? Which is better to purchase, a Yonex mouse or a Victor cat?
