..if kwun approves.. Trying to get a feel of how many local London/England/European based BCers will be able to attend..*sorry for the nearly last minute plan A badminton session get-together will be the main event.. And if any BCers would like an official BC t-shirt, we will plan that as well.. Looking fw to any London-based members who want to be in charge??..
Will see what I can do for meeting up, I wont be watching though too expensive and difficult to get tickets. For comparison a session ticket costs around £40 for approx 2-3 hrs play....for the past WC and AE a day ticket is around £18 for 10 hrs, so approx 8 times more expensive...combined with the expense of parking etc.. I am going to be a party pooper, sorry...but I can maybe meet up for an evening to play!
Oh, fond memories of our Beijing 2008 get-togethers! Thanks for the heads-up Chris! I'd love to join, just not sure whether I'll be able to make it. Might be doing an internship in Shanghai this summer (and passing up on my Olympics job at Wembley/Badminton). Will let you know asap.
is he gonna watch badminton? is he gonna cheer for Lin Dan & co.? or gonna cheer for LCW and co.? will you be one of the honorable hosts/organizers?.. Speaking of watching the Olympics, do you know if there are shopping centers which might have one of those huge tv screens where the public can watch the matches?..I know back in 2008, the folks in Beijing were spoiled when they had those multi-stories tv screen in the shopping plazas showing the badminton matches..watching them FOR FREEEEE.. owww?..surprised, after you mentioned abt how excited you were in getting the gig to help the OG?..Hopefully you can make it, Fengwei..
Plan meet-up time & list of those planning to attend (please add your name) We don't have anything firm for the day & time of the get-together yet. Will slowly confirm everything. As of now, we've reserved for Saturday 08/04 between 2-5pm for the get-together. 1984AllEngland will reserve a venue & place & time for now. Will adjust and confirm everything as the day approaches.. - jamesd20 (James D.) - 1984AllEngland (James) - ctjcad
I am not sure which sports is he going to watch. But I only know I will have one week holiday during OG! Haha... By the way, you go to London to watch badminton solely?
then better pray & hope whichever players/teams he'll be supporting are gonna win (if it's LCW, then i don't know how you'll feel) so he;ll come back home in a good mood & give you guys another week (maybe even 2 more weeks) of holiday . Yah, laser-focused on the baddy event...might try to see other sports but slim chance..Last chance to see LD in action in a big event before he hangs it up for good.
Update.....We'll try to arrange a get-together sometimes during weekdays to accommodate those members who can't make it on Aug. 4th.. - jamesd20 (James D.) - 1984AllEngland (James) - ctjcad - Sevex (Matt) anyone else? don't be shy to add your name to the list above..
I'd like to come But I don't think I'd be an organizer or anything, even though I'm based in London, sorry <_<' (I'm actually just a kid at 16 ><' ) Although, I'm more than happy to help out and stuff Btw, I'm still kinda confused about when and where this get together is?
Boggieeiggob! I was your age during the 2008 Beijing Olympics get-togethers (now 20) and trust me when I tell you that being 16 years old doesn't matter a single bit. As long as you're motivated and willing to help out the BadmintonCentral community, there's no need for you to consider yourself of less use. Back then I wasn't at all familiar with the entire city, and that's completely alright. You learn a lot of things along the way; basic organizing skills, contacting people, being a guide, sharing in amazing experiences with all your new friends from all around the world. After all these years, I still cannot remind myself enough of the huge influence these people had on my life, and helping me picture my future. BC members like: Loh, Ctjcad, Hcyong, Syaoren_Style, and many others gave me tremendous life-advice (forgot most usernames, know them by name now). At 16, there is no better crowd to learn from than these people. I know I'll never forget what went on in Beijing that year, and how much these friendships mean to me. To tie this up: Age is irrelevant. It's all about dedication, kindness, honesty and commitment, characteristics everyone will appreciate and acknowledge. Take a leap of faith, be a bit gutsy, and show them what you're made of (at 16 ). I know they'll all agree with me. Fengwei
Heh, well in that case, I will try to help out then Like I said, I'm not sure being an organizer would be such a good thing because I don't really know many venues in London that can facilitate badminton, let alone for a few hours on the trot <_<' but I'd be more than glad to help out in any way I can
Update: - jamesd20 (James D.) - 1984AllEngland (James) - ctjcad - Sevex (Matt) - Mark A (Mark) ; if someone can give him a ride.. - Boggieeiggob ? > will you be available as my London guide?
Depends what you mean by guide. Because like, I know my way around some bits of London, but I'm not a cab driver or anything so I don't know how to get to every single place, but anyway, probably. I'll see
