How can we not have a thread of Porntip? I admit I myself am guilty of neglecting her and paying too much attention on her youger teammate Inthanon Ratchanok and unjustly forgetting that Porntip was the first Thai player to win a Superseries title, thereby spawning the rise of a young cohort of promising players that make us sit up and notice them. Let us not overlook that Porntip is still only 20 years old, not that much older than her up and coming juniors whom together with her enable the emergence of Thailand as a soon-to-be powerhouse. I look forward to seeing Porntip's second wind raising her game to another level.
Name: Porntip Buranaprasertsuk Player of Country: Thailand Plays: Women's singles. Style: right-handed Born: October 24, 1991
Thanks, cobalt, for the above memorable pic and personal data. She's 21 already, still young, hope to see her rise again better than ever. She has the height, for an Asian, and build, and she can jump smash with both feet high above the ground for a steep angled one !
Porntip is a gd player but is consistent recently. Anyway she is still young. Would like to see her improve and be considered as a strong challenger to the top WS players
She is only female player who can jump smash. If she win more titles, I think even China players may have to learn jump smash to beat her.
Porntip,in your match against Li Xuerui today in the R16 of the INA Open 2012, I think you've raised your game going by the scoreline,23-21,14-21 and 21-16, as there wasn't livestreaming or live telecast available. A creditable performance vs the mighty LXR - you were at 15-all in G3 before losing it. I hoped this is your new level of play and may you continue your upward progress going forward. All the best.
Congrats to Porntip for winning the Yones Sunrise Vietnam Open. Not a big tournament by any means, but a victory nonetheless.
Well, players have been jump-smashing for 30 years or so now and women's singles has yet to be dominated by a woman who does them. cobalt is right that Yip Pui Yin is one of the most noteworthy owners of a jump smash. Camilla Sorensen and Linda Zetchiri are among the others and in doubles there are others. Ratchanonok does them on occasion as well. The issue isn't those who 'can', but rather those who deem it to be worth the extra exertion and recovery time.
The jump-smash I have in mind is with both feet high in the air bent at the knees, back slightly arched backwards to thunder down a strong steep-angled smash as in the men's singles. In this sense, I think only a handful of WS are capable of it and Porntip is one of them. Not necessarily a decisive advantage but a lethal weapon nonetheless. Coupled with accuracy in the smash plus one or two other killer shots will round it up nicely and certainly qualify such a player as formidable.
Her heart is not totally committed to badminton. She studying and inspire to be lawyer (if not mistaken). She puts limited training time on badminton and has to attend Uni. (read it somewhere) Used to like her.. but .. observed On court, she sometime slacks and when losing in a match, loses her fighting spirit easily. Plus point, she is good retriever and some good attacking play when she is in form.
My best wishes to Porntip in her legal education. There is life outside badminton. May she do well in both, just as Boonsak Ponsana seems to be doing.
Porntip (Peach) studies mass communication, majoring in TV & Radio Broadcasting. Now she's on the university-required job training program in a northern province of Thailand. The good news is she will come back and join Sudirman Cup tournament this month.
Peach will be in the final at China Masters today. Inspired by Ratchanok perhaps, she is back as a fulltime player, after four-year study at Chulalongkorn, the most prestigious university in Thailand. Best of luck to this talented young lady.
I found "Peach" performance at the final confounding. She showed great physical strenght and technical skill, but immense immaturity. She had the game for her, her Chinese opponent could barely move, but instead of making Liu Xin run and run more, she went for fast points and made mistake. I felt sorry for her, it was a golden opportunity.
