    Thumbs up Malaysian Open: MS

    The draw is finally out!

For MS, the draw is as followed:

    Quarter 1

    - Chen Hong, the top seed will play compatriot Wu Yunyong in the second round, followed by either Boonsak Polsana or Joppien in the last 16. Should be no problem to reach last 8.
    - 5th seeded Anders Boesen will find it tough to justify his seedings. His 1st round opponent will be the upcoming local youngster, Yeoh KB. Winner will play Dicky Palyama in round 2. If Boesen survives, his campaign will likely comes to an end at the hands of compatriot Peter Rasmussen or Lee TS. Good luck to Lee TS!

    Quarter 2

    - Wong CH, seeded no 4, has an easy path to last 16, where his opponent will be either AE champion, Hafiz Hashim or Agus Hariyanto. Hafiz and Agus will face-off in round 1.
    - Sony Dwi Kuncoro, the no. 6 seed, has a real challenging draw. He will open his campaign against Malaysian veteran, Yong HK before a second round clash with Lin Dan. The winner will play Shon SM or Sairul Amar Ayob in last 16.

    Quarter 3

    - Xia XZ is the favourite to advance from this quarter. Should not have problem to cruise thru the first 2 rounds, before meeting either Bao CL, Peter Gade or Chen Yu in last 16. Bao will meet Gade in the opening round. Survivor from the last 16 match will play either Roslin Hashim, Rony Agustinus, Park TS or Niels Christian Kaldau.

    Quarter 4

    - World no 2, Kenneth Jonassen has Budi Santoso as his first round rival. Should easily win his second round match before meeting Ong EH in last 16. Winner will play Lee HI, Ng Wei or Gopichand in last 8.

Based on the MS draw, we can expect action-filled week ahead in Kota Kinabalu.

My expectation for semis line-up will be:

Chen Hong vs Lin Dan/Wong CH/Sony Dwi Kuncoro
    Xia XZ vs Lee HI

Peter Gade skipped INA open, and is concentrating to regroup himself for this Malaysia open. He might thought it would be his chance to win over those exhausted opponents from INA open.

But what he thought might not what he gets. Now he has to face 2 face with Bao in the first round, then if he's lucky, Chen Yu in the 2nd round, and Xia in the 3rd. In fact, it is really a pity that those giants collide in the realy rounds. While in some other 1/16 even 1/8, there are few really good player

Peter Gade skipped Indonesian Open, because ALL the danish team skipped it.

Their government apparently asked them not to go there because of security reasons (Denmark supported iraqi war, so fears terrorism...)

All this to say it wasn't a personal choice!

Agree, the draw is quite one-sided.
Quarter 4 appears to be the easiest of the lot. A good chance for Ong EH to "slap" Misbun's face.

That's just the excuse. If Danes were the target of terrorism in Indonesia, where are the position for Americans, Brits, and Aussies, even Chinese!

    Governement just suggested, I believe.

    Not true.

Bo Fafn is in the event. He is from the danish team.

This is similar to what Indon team did in Singapore open. You cannot find any INA player in the main draw, no taufik, no sony, but they sent their 2nd stringers there in the qualifying round. There is no big name from Denmark in INA open, but if you pay attention, you can find some Danish youngster such as Bo Fafn

Bo Rafn isn't in the Danish team I don't think, he is down as an individual entry.

does anyone know what happen to taufik hidayat?
couldnt find his name listed at both indo and malaysia open ...

definitely an excuse ... they know they couldnt survive without air-condition in the building!

few americans, brits, australian are still attending wismilak open (tennis - women) in bali ... so far there is no top 20 players has withdrawn after the marriot bomb.

does it mean men are more afraid with bomb?

i'm surprised the English played, and didn't withdraw like Danes.

What does this mean for the TC being hosted in Indonesia?

I really respect the English for this. The danes are just afraid of their own shadows, like that guy in the white house....umm...what's his name? Could also be that the Danes are using this as an excuse to recover for Malaysian Open.

I am sure they would have adequate security measures there. Furthermore, heard that Batam is quite a nice place. Have some nice resorts there.

    Default Round 2 match-ups

The following fancied player has been knocked out in the 1st round:
    - Lee TS (lost to Indon junior)
    - Anders Boesen (lost to Yeoh KB)
    - Gade (lost to Bao CL)
    - Gopichand (lost to Ng Wei)
    - Agus Hariyanto (lost to Hafiz Hashim)
    - Shon SM (lost to Sairul Amar Ayob)

    Tomorrow's 2nd round match-ups:

    Chen Hong vs Wu YY
    Boonsak vs Joppien
    Yeoh KB vs Dicky Palyama
    Kuan BH vs Simon Santoso
    Wong CH vs Andrew Smith
Hafiz Hashim vs Yohan Hadi Wiratama

    Sairul Amar vs Gupta
    Lee CW vs Roslin Hashim
    Pei WC vs Niels Kaldau
    Chen Yu vs Bao CL

Basically, these players should book their last 16 ticket:

    Chen Hong
    Boonsak
    Wong CH
    Sairul Amar
    Niels Kaldau
    Xia XZ
    Lee HI
    Kenneth J

Other matches could go either way.

It will be good if both Kuan BH and Yeoh KB could win their matches to set an all-Malaysian last 16 match-up. These 2 youngsters do have a realistic chance to do so.

Hafiz vs Yohan will be a repeat of this year's Korean Open round 1, where the AE champion suffered a shocking loss.
