I have noticed that very few actually use the "location" field in their profile. And I've also noticed that many of the long-time users (no, I'm not naming anyone) that had entered information there previously have now removed it.

This is an international forum, and it does add some spice to see where users reside in the world.

The "location" field is there to be used, so why not use it?

    :D

You are aware that "bo-leh" is resigned way of saying "none" or "not
    available" in Fukien...

    That's "boh-lah" or "boh-leh", my dear!;)
"Boh-lah" is quite commonly used by Malaysian or Singaporean Hokkiens to mean "no-lah"....:D

It's probably just this. But seriously I doubt we could pinpoint somebody down if the location bar said "Toronto, Ontario." Which one of the 4 million peeps should we start with??:D

Maybe ppl might just try to avoid some potential trouble like ppl from the same region will keep bothering him/her about club / equipment / tournament info?

In contrast, being in Western Ontario and NOT Toronto makes me extremely easy to find if you actually knew what City I lived in. Maybe its the mystery of it all....who knows, we might have already played in tourney's against each other!

only if you list your hometown in the tournament list, and uses bk-8010, and have gosen in your bag and playing with your laptop in between match and when someone shouted "9cdn553woba" you go running for the door.

Some people may like the anonymity, for example if I had my proper name eg. John Smith and then UK in location field everyone knows me in a tournament say. Whereas if i dont fill in my location i could be from anywhere. Some people use "big smash" or "killer Drop" for their name so can put there location on. however I wil put my location on, and if anyone is in my area feel free to contact me to play.:)

And third. It would sure be nice to know where users are. (And has practical use in market place and where to play forums)

Nobody is suggesting you put your exact address down!! Just the city and country will do! It's gives another angle to the interest in badminton around the world. For instance, I never realised badminton is played in Newfoundland (probably a bit naive but hadn't thought about it before)

well, lead by example is a good motto and the moderators put their locations in.

Suspicious about what? What does one have to hide in this forum? BC/BF is just a place for everyone to exchange ideas, knowledge and experience. It encourages the growth of the sport and provides mutual support among participants. What's so bad about revealing a little about yourself and making a few friends in the process?

Of course, this forum is about badminton and nowhere does it mention that we are obligated to reveal personal info:rolleyes: However, knowing where everybody is from enhances the sharing process. At least helpful for others to know that someone from the same locale could help them find better bargains. Personally, I feel really glad to be here and it warms my heart to know that badminton is played (almost?) everywhere around the world:).

On the contrary, I'm more suspicious of posters who don't put anything down in their profile.
