Hello, I probably will study in Singapore and would like some advice about badminton in Singapore. How many time per week can we play ? Can we play where we want (without have to be always in the same place) or in a specific area of our club ? How many tournaments can we play per year ? Is there a calendar online and a ranking ? If you also have another advice, can you tell me ? Thank you in advance Koo&Tan
Why not? Money rules. You didn't know? lol. How much can you afford? You national player or kampung player?
No, I think it's depend of the country. You can be surprise but this is not like this where I live (France) : We can just join one club unless if you live in two cities (for example if you live with your parents but also study in another place) but this practice is not official and depend if the club is agree. This is why I open this thread, because I know possibilities are different. Don't know price in Singapore, is it a one year inscription ? In France, price are 50 to 150 € (80 to 240 USD) for one year, it depends of the club level/reputation. I can pay the extra 240 usd for a good club in France but can't say anything about Singapore. Are there good reputation club ? Thank you very much
between both, I think. I'm not an excellent player ("national player") but have a good ranking in my country (not the best reference for Asia ). I will say I'm an intermediate++ but since I don't feel these term very accurate, my judgement can be approximate. Also you ask me about my level, I have to say that I just want to progress and have a good club, and train a lot (I train (and play) 5 time a week now).
Good one. In SG, the average cost for joining a group is around $5-7sgd. Just see the thread above and join them. You need to be brave to join in. There's no red carpet for you. You have to be assertive. Good luck.
There are no restrictions if you're playing at public courts which are open from 7am to 10pm daily. There are private clubs like Chinese Swimming Club and Singapore Swimming Club but you need to pay a hefty membership fee or pay a guest fee if a member bring you to the club. There's no limit to the number of tournaments you can play in a year. You could participate in the tournaments organised by SBA, private clubs (eg Chinese Swimming Club), schools (like SIM) etc. Most tournaments are open to all but some are restricted to Singaporeans and PRs. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...ents/page32?highlight=forthcoming+tournaments
Thank you very well for your answers What PRs means ? Two more questions : Can you recommend me a place / club to go ? I visit Chinese Swimming Club and see "level : 2" in a tournament page. So, how level number work ? The smaller the number, the higher the level ?
Permanent Residents. There are also tournaments open to student pass holders. A private club membership (eg. Chinese Swimming Club) would cost S$10,000? There are badminton clubs affiliated to Singapore Badminton Association (SBA). Perhaps you could refer to the website for more details. (it seems to be down at the moment) http://www.singaporebadminton.org.sg
Ok, I just look at the Singapore section in the forum and start to understand how it work. I sometime see a shuttlecock model, so another question comes to my mind : Are shuttlecocks provided by the group organizer or everyone have to use his own shuttle ?
