    Hi all,

I have been playing badminton for a while and experienced some serious smell issues with the PVC/Polyester clothing that I wear. For some reason I can't get the smell out of these clothes although I actually chuck them straight into the washing machine after I played. I don't experience this problem with cotton wear.

I started to look at solutions and read through forums and where people recommended Win Green/Blue or Penguin wash. My biggest hurdle however so far has been that the products are not shipped to New Zealand.

Can anyone recommend me a good product that they also sell or shop to New Zealand ? Or if you have a tip how I could get the smell out of my clothes, I would very appreciated it.

    Thanks in advance.

Same with my shirt. I dont think can get the smell away. Solution is buy another new shirt. Wear it for 2 - 3 years then change it.

I also experience this problem as well...only way to solve is to change the clothing regularly....if not, try to handwash instead of chucking into washing machine....washing machine dun really wash out the sweat i realise....coz at times when i wash with hands after a machine wash, i could still see murky water when squeezing it dry

I agree with Porky. Hand washing these types of shirts quickly is better than tossing into hamper for next machine wash.
Visor's suggested product looks useful, too.

These sweat-wicking fabrics really help keep you cooler. But they can quickly feel like wet saran wrap on your body and they emit your body odour to all those around you. As an average non-competitive schmoe living in Canada, I find the sweat and smell-absorbing advantages of cotton usually outweigh the coolness factor of breathable synthetics.

    Hi all,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one having this problem :)

I ll give washing them by hand a try - I am keen to see the result. I would hate to see myself going back to cotton shirts, as they get quite heavy once I start sweating. But everything else fails, I guess I have to do so.

@Visor. Thanks, I have sent them an email now.

    Cheers

    Hi all,

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with that problem :)

I would hate to turn to cotton again, but if these odor eliminators won't work, I will do it.

@Vigor: Thanks I sent them an email now, let's see what they say.

    Cheers

Have the same problem too but found a solution to get rid of the smell. We have wash them using warm water n detergents that works well in cold water, preferably liquid concentrated ones. Also have to let them sit for about at least 10-15 mins in warm water+detergent. Rinsing also preferably warm water, an preferably twice with a squeezing in-between. Quite a hassle actually n I also prefer to go back to old cotton clothes, they are also much more comfortable to sleep on.:D

My shirts really stank until I tried and added dettol laundry wash (green bottle) to my machine wash. My job is sports-related and I change about 1 to 2 tshirts everyday. I hardly any problem with my clothes nowadays. Another thing is to wash the used clothes on the very same day of exercise. Maybe it'll help for you.

do you wash your clothes with hot or cold water?

i have had some towels (cotton) that have this smell that won't go away. i searched and found out that there are some bacteria that gives out the smell and the simple way to kill them off is to wash with hot water. just one round and the towel no longer smell anymore. you might want to give it a try.

Dettol sounds good. It'll kill the bacteria responsible for the odour.
Only problem is the polyester clothing won't be able to withstand the hot water treatment. I'm pretty sure the label states cold or warm water wash only.

    Hi,

The fabrique is 100% Polyester. I looked at the label and it said, wash at about 40*C, so yeah warm water only I guess. I have shirts of different brands, from Yonex and Addidas to no-name ones. The problem is the same for all of them.

I had tried already washing them with cold or warm water, it didn't make a difference. I have also soaked it into water and detergent and left it there for a while, but no difference :(

Kwun, I had a look on their website, but can only see a purple bottle. Is that the product ? http://www.dettol.co.uk/bathroom

    Cheers

Dettol's active ingredient is chloroxylenol ( 4-chloro-5-dimethylphenol). It must be good for us because the molecule even looks a bit like a badminton bird coming at you! :)

I wash my apparels in a front loading washing machine at 20 degrees temperature. Most fabric softeners work for me eg Downy, Softlan, Comfort etc.
