Now that the official entry list is announced we know who all WS players are participating at the Olympics. With that in mind who do you think can challenge China's might in the WS and How far do you think they can go?
i have an intuition that if the Chinese lose, they will be made by the Korean and that the Korean will win the gold, on the cost of the Chinese. Hope it is not and Wang Yihan to win it. Cheer WYH.
Hehehe! Of course Gopal, you definitely do think Saina will win Gold. Every single Indian does think that, me included! But one has to be grounded in the facts as well! According to the Draws posted by BWF, Saina if she gets through her first round will most likely meet Jie Yao in the pre quarterfinal. They have a Head to head of of 3-2 in Saina's favor. So, it definitely wont be easy there! Although the last time Yao beat Saina was in 2009 so it should work in Saina's favour. Next if there are no upsets, she is slated to meet none other than Tine Baun! So definitely your prediction of silver for Baun wont come true because if it does, it'll be at the expense of Saina!! Their H-H at the moment is 3-3. So they are actually quite evenly matched! We can only pray for Saina to get through here. Note that the serious Chinese challenge hasn't even started as yet! Next she'll come up against her biggest hurdle. Her next opponent should in all probability be none other than the top seed Wang Yihan. Saina has never won a match against her ever. Their H-H is 0-5. This will be the semi finals! If she some how manages to overcome that, then the finals will be against either Li Xuerui or Wang Xin with an outside chance for Julianne Schenk! Saina has a better Head to head against Schenk 5-3 but she has a poor record against both Xuerui as well as Xin, 2-4 losing! So ya, those are the hardcore facts! Of course on any given day, head to heads don't really matter. What matters is how one is playing on that given day and who is more hungry to win. One has to accept though that the odds surely are against Saina and it will need a miracle really for her to get gold! Lets all pray for that miracle!!
I pity you if you dont consider Wang Xin to be a CHN WS, she lost to Saina... and whatever you may say here she has proved to be the biggest threat to CHN WS in the Olympics.... who else you see apart frm the CHN in the podium? while they had the chance to grab all 3 they ended up with just 2.... Buck up Saina.... She can get the GOLD at RIO....... but for now being at the podium itself is an achievement...
You still didnt read the score line it seems... and if you have to attribute anything to luck and if's and but's there could be many possibilities.... CHN WS also got lucky for badminton to be allowing 3 players... the players had a draw which was lucky, if WYH would have faced LXR before and Saina played LXR it could have been different I agree CHN system is better and their players are at a better level but then we wish the game to grow for that to hapen we would rather see the positives... you may think it a fake pride but we believe its doable just wait and see... the time definitley would tell...
miss Sung Ji Hyun a strong rep from Korea Schenk a strong rep from Germany Saina a strong rep from India Inthanon a strong rep from Thailand Unfortunately, the rest are small-fries for the Chinese
