My son aged 13 has been playing badminton for 3 years. He is under a proper coach. He does his physicals, warmups cool downs properly. He hasn't had any serious injuries so far.

He has a problem now. It started with a sharp pain on the right front thigh while playing.
He was put onto a physiotherapist who-is handling his case now.
His pains then shifted to the inside thigh, then to the back thigh .lower back and now is at the middle back

His pains are of a burning nature but has reduced after physiotherapy

The coach says this happens when physicals/running are not enough

Could someone throw some light on this subject

This does not sound like something that anyone can figure out over the Internet. You need a doctor to examine your son, just to be safe. Good luck.

I don't like what you have described because I have suffered similar pain for 2 years yet unable to pinpoint the actual cause. It could be hip or lower back muscle imbalance that causes pelvis tilt or scoliosis and resulting in spinal or hip nerve compression (and hopefully w/o permanently nerve damage yet). It could also be scoliosis which some teenagers develop with unknown reason. I highly recommend your son stop playing completely and seek help from your family doctor asap. He/she will be able to direct your son to the correct specialists. Physiotherapists are trained to treat muscles but sounds like your son needed more than that. Also, if it were soft tissue injury (like spinal disc compression), x-ray will reveal nothing. He will need a MRI for precise diagnosis. Hopefully I haven't scared you too much and good luck.
