You guys are so lucky to still have a team! (Coming from a Queen's player)
Even though the season is now cut down so that you only play everyone once and all in one semester, it's still a lot better than nothing, Good luck this year!

I really feel for you guys at Queen's. I know several people on the Queen's team and it's too bad that you guys aren't in the league this year. Someone should consider having a student run team though for next season. It's horrible that badminton teams are cut from the school programs because of lack of sponsoring and funding.

well the stated reason why badminton, alongside many other varsity sports teams were cut entirely or at least reduced, is because of the double cohert. having the same relatively few people taking up time in athletic facilities up to 5 times a week as well as providing funding for equipment, competitions, etc. isn't worth it if they have to deal with a lot more people coming in. Alternatively they say intramurals and clubs allow a larger portion of the student population to get involved in sports and it costs less. while that's true, it sure does suck for us.

queen's has 3 "levels" of competitive sports: varsity team, varsity club, competitive club and this year we're now the third level instead of the first. the authorities have said that if enough people come out this year for the competitive club (which basically is where we practice together once or twice a week and then go play tournaments on our own) then next year we could be upgraded to a varsity club, where we won't get much funding from the university but we will at least get gym time and be part of the university league, though i personally don't plan on still being in university then!

Oh yeah. Being a UWaterloo alumni and badminton fanatic, I can attest to the above statements made by Bobby. In particular, that last remark is especially true!

    Cheers,
