    Hey,

So im wonder what is the difference between an defending lift and an attacking push when it comes to technique and execution. Also where does the power come from for both of these strokes (from supination/pronation, wrist, fingers, etc)? From my understanding the push is generated power from just the fingers with little forearm rotation while the defensive lift involves more movement of the elbow, forearm rotation and not so much of the fingers.

    Thanks so much for replying!

From 1 end of the spectrum to the other -
when the shuttle is very tight to net, the LOW defensive lift is more like a tennis swing than badminton swing. When the shuttle is HIGH, the lift can be just fingers and wrist. In between, the lift can be either, or preferably in between (tennis and badminton swing) also. The tennis-like swing is truly defensive. The finger and wrist lift can have much flatter trajectory... but watch up for tall and athletic opponent.

for the super tight drops or netshots, try doing a counter netshot or a crosscourt netshot. just make sure its tight
because more than half the time, youre gonna hit it into the net if you try to lift it.

You are correct. Lift, push the clues are in the words and are shots used in different situations. A defensive lift is an underarm shot with the racket head going in an upward direction. It is used when you cannot kill or push the shuttle and is generally the last resort unless your opponent has a poor smash. Power is generated mainly from the wrist and arm. An attacking push is an overarm shot pushing the shuttle flat into the midcourt or at your opponent and is used when you cannot kill the shuttle or get it going in a downwards direction. Power is generated from having a loose grip with wrist cocked. Try looking at some coaching clips for further guidance. Lee Jae Bok has some good training videos.

As diverdan says the power generation is different.

For the attacking push to work even more effectively, hold your shot a tad longer to fool your opponent into expecting a soft shot, then at the very last instant snap the racket sharply into the bird with power from fingers and wrist to put the shot over their head or past them into the back.

if he's asking for difference between lift and push, then a push from the net is using a lot more finger 'roll' to twist the racket face. Of course for a lif the racket face is already pointing up so the only finger action required is a squeeze.

for a push the power will come from fingers and a bit of supination. If you crank up the supination element you turn it into a drive.

for a lift the power comes from a squeeze of grip and ulnar deviation. I have seen some try to use supination and they are forever miss-hitting and miss-timing
