Think about it this way. Most people attending the opening ceremony probably had non DSLR cameras or smart phones whose flashes go off automatically at a certain darkness. So it's not really their intention to use flashes in this instance.

Even with p&s cams, there's a night mode setting or flash off. By using fully auto and having the flash fire, all the picture they'll get is just a dark shot of nothing (and probably the flash will light up the back of the heads of the people in front of them) as the shutter speed is at least 1/30s thus not slow enough to let the dim light in and the flash is useless past 10ft on their p&s.

You really think these people are thinking about the above when they went to the stadium?

I think if they've set it on auto, the person doesn't know how to stop the flash from working or sometimes, they forget it's on.

Nevertheless, that brings another point that cameras with a built in flash is more of a distraction than a long lens. Cameras with flashes should not be allowed.

If people don't know how to switch off their flashes, that pretty much eliminates 95% of cameras because every P&S has a flash

I just watched a bit of badminton coverage on regular TV. There are loads of DSLRs in the audience! So surprised to see so many there.

as far as i know you can bring them in but not allowed to use in the arena.
they are quite relax in-between matches especially during the winner's lap of honor.

lost again, if they win the next match, I'm still not sure if they are still going to get through

..don't blame me..i was just parked there at the corner of the street and those players kept walking and passing by me~good enough for me, i suppose...so just took advantage..

As for people bringing in DSLR to the venue, i think there are. But don't believe they're allowed to bring in those white lenses..But overall, they did allow people to take photos inside.

Default A couple more side news..

    - Was told by Fengwei, Prince Charles actually was in attendance & attended y'day's (Saturday's) morning session..

    - Yup, saw a couple of folks trying to sell tix as scalpers, as close to the arena. Pretty much like Beijing again..Police officers are pretty much keeping an eye on the arena/area and trying to keep scalpers away..

    - There are a few concession stands outside the arena, all along the long walkway from the Wembley Station to the arena. Souvenier shops are already there, but for some reason they're not opened all the time..

It's not possible anymore, because the Chinese already have 2 wins and the 2nd slot is a straight fight between Russia and Germany.
