let's try to spot the badminton players amongst the crowd, and if we are lucky, we may spot a badminton player or two a pole bearer. unfortunately in the US, the London Olympics Opening Ceremony will not broadcast it live. NBC has decided that they will tape it and show it during primetime, hopefully someone will stream it somewhere.
i was told the opening ceremony itself will "disappoint" some who actually bought tickets to see the event live @ the stadium (was told of the dress rehearsal)...so, if anyone missed it LIVE, you won't miss a thing. Supposedly it will start at 9 pm local time..Will try to get up close & catch some "ending" actions..
Day negative 2, Womens' soccer has already started. Already controversy when they accidentally displayed a S. Korean flag during the N. Korean team intro on the big screen. N. Korea players protested and walked off the field. Match started 65 mins late. Maybe the NBC website will stream opening ceremony live?
i would walk off too. very unprofessional. no. they said they only promise to stream sports event live, and they don't consider the opening ceremony a sports event. they want to make sure no one sees it until primetime so they can charge lots of money for the commercials.
Seems not spectacular extravaganza as previous Opening Ceremony did it?! For every opening ceremony of OG, I'm always waiting the moment of Olympic cauldron lit, the most impressive so far for me is Barcelona 1992 & Sydney 2000, how about London 2012, will give us surprise?
Lol... I still watch the HD video of it with my kids once in a while and they are absolutely mesmerized every time. Beijing really set the bar too high for opening ceremonies of *any* event.
Rio in 2016 OG may come close, as they're 1st time host (usually 1st timers want to "show off")...by then we may see more half naked men & women dancing, prancing & doing flips all over the place than before..
I actually think that the opening ceremony of the 2010 Commonwealth Games was spectacular! But then again, I am biased
I'd be surprised if we see many badminton players as their tournament starts the next day [well maybe not that surprised given 2008] ... Koukal, flag bearer AND playing next day at 1PM? Wonder if that's still on ... Dutch Olympic Committee has a 48 hour rule nowadays to take away the responsibility/blame from the players who are on not long after the ceremony [performance above all of course ]. In fact only 43 out of the 133 will appear with many not even making the trip yet with it being so close (in proximity).
4 1/2 hours till the opening ceremony. we will find out how it is soon. from what i can tell, the guys who are doing the art and choreograph are more hip style. none of those traditional style in Beijing, expect a lot more dancing involved.
some online streaming services like sportlemon have listed the opening ceremony. but we will see if these streams will get banned by the IOC or not.
Some Olympic officials has been arrested for immigration offenses as we speak. Talk about short of manpower.
