Right choice. However if the officials had done their job properly and DQ'd the first two pairs like they threatened then it would have saved the second two pairs.

i agree its a massive step though and to do it without consulting the higher 'powers' and national representatives could be seen the officials ridiculed.

It is a big step in badminton. Yup, action should have been taken against the first two pairs before letting this plague the Indonesian pair and Kim/Ha though. LYB's reign might not last long now

Korea is the biggest casualty here, but China has just lost a definite gold

I just heard on HK TV news that the 4 pairs have been disqualified. It's also written on the TV screen as they report on other news.

There is no mention of it being provisional!!!

Really? I totally agree to disqualify these four pairs. They don't even respect badminton as a sport.

    Is this really true?

This is really crossing the line... I mean, ok sure the pairs did the wrong thing, but taking them out of the competition completely???

There was no rule or regulation nor a warning to the players or coaches... this is imo is uncalled for and I feel for the players who trained so hard just for this event...

If they make a group system like this, how can they not expect fixed matches? Is BWF just asking for more publicity? How about reverting back to the elimination system? The coaches and players were simply planning according to the system, had it been an elimination format, you can expect everyone to do their best...

Disqualifying them will only worsen the problem... now LYB and China badminton are going to take it to BWF. I hope they discuss this further...

It's funny they decide to take action now during the Olympics when China's been doing it for the past 10 years.............

It was announced to those in the stadium running the tournament about an hour or so ago and the info came from the meeting involving the BWF, team principals and the IOC. I said provisional due to the nature of sport and appeals. However the Chinese Olympic body seem to be distancing themselves from Chinese badminton decisions currently, team Korea blame team china and the other nations all complained against China, Korea and Indonesia.

See told you. But I really(x5) didnt expect the drama to outshine even the other sports, in a bad way too, sigh.:(

The names of the 4 pairs are still on the Official OG site though

So are they reinstating the third and fourth placed teams from these groups?

I have paid £380 for 4 tickets to watch Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang play Ha Jung-Eun and Kim Min-Jung.

Am I going to get a refund????

I think it is disgraceful, firstly that I have paid a lot of money to watch the badminton which was advertised as 17:00 to 21:00, but is actually 17:00 to 20:00, and now they are saying not even that???????

There are 10 matches scheduled for this evening, 2 now cancelled I assume because both teams are disqualified, so that means now that instead of 10 matches in the stadium there are only 8? And instead of 3 matches on my court, only 2. And this costs me £380?????

Uhhhh you obviously didn't watch the match. In the first match the players were warned on court that they would be disqualified from the tournament if they carried on in the same manner. The right decision imo.
