I tried to do a poll, but I guess not enough power Anyways, we're all sitting on the sidelines and judging the players/coaches and how much they're a disgrace to the sportsmenship and wasting viewers time and money. Now it's put this into perspective, if you were playing a regional/national tournament, and losing a match can earn you hundreds of thousands of dollars AND keep your job - your sole source of income for the rest of your life, would you do it?
No, I wouldn't do it. I am too professional that way. I would respect my fans and play the game to tbe best of my ability and sign autographs afterwards. I will throw my shirt to the audience and give my racket (and mobile phone number) to the prettiest girl on the front row. God, I'm so wonderful.
"IF i will have to speak out of honesty", yes, and of course i'll do it... to lose for winning! but why should i "be honest" in expressing my true mindset in all these talking biz if i may indulge myself in the extreme orgx pleasure of spitting out all the curses and blames, even exaggerating it repeatedly, again and again to satisfying my long overdue, deeply-seated hatred and jealousy. Reap the chance to dig till the bones. Mind it, it's an extremely rare opportunity you may not find one in decades. Lets have much much lots of fun treading around... so just seek one's own pleasure and satisfaction... there are different ways to different heads enjoy the games! Have lots of funs
I'm **** as a player. No need to do it deliberately, I'll lose anyway. I'm seriously, fiercely honest.
I won't do it. Even playing a weak sided opponent. I will treat every match as a 'real' match and play with my 'true' ability
If my life was on it and money; then yes. If I worked so hard and I really want a gold medal, I would definitely do it.
i would do it as my only source of income is on it. it's just a match. if i don't do it and i'm sacked from the national camp (then no income), i don't think fans/audience can do anything to help.
Given the conditions: 1. In a tournament that really matters to me 2. It is not forbidden by the rules I will throw a match in order to win.
I don't think I could. I have been in a small local club tournament in group stages where losing would have meant playing a theoretically weaker team next. My partner suggested it but I didn't like it and neither did he, so we didn't do it. We then went on to win the tournament as we were got into an aggressive winning mentality and the time between matches were short so we didn't lose it. Even with money involved I don't think I would, I would want to win too much and keep confidence high. No point playing if you don't think you can win against a pair or you've already lost when you step on court. I am of course referring more to the Koreans/ Indonesians rather than the Chinese who were going for the double gold/ silver medal.
Until you're in that position you never really never know how you'll react so let's assume you cave in to the pressure and play to lose. I can actually understand that. Now what you guys are missing is that in the midst of the farce officials show up and tell you if you continue you will be DQ'd. In fact, they actually DQ you but, you protest and promise to play a proper match so they graciously withdraw the DQ. Would you be stupid enough to still proceed with this farce? I like to think I wouldn't give in to temptation. But, I know I'm not stupid.
I wont do it. This is about principle, honesty, and respect. Not only they disrespect their opponent, their so called 'strategy' has tainted the badminton in the history of Olympic.
Throwing matches to be in better position to win in the future is not unique to badminton. It has happened before in other sports, individual or team. And it will continue to happen in the future. I don't see anything wrong with it. Why waste energy if you are sure you're going to advance?
