"cost of bidding for the rights fee and organising the seven-day Thomas Cup, estimated to be between S$4 million and S$6 million"

does it really need so much to host this game? there isnt any prize $ for the event

It'd be excellent. Very, very keen. I'll be flying over to watch if they get it.

On a side-note, customs officials laugh at you a lot if you tell them you're travelling internationally to watch a badminton tournament.

Agree. Not only that, we get laughed at by embassy staff when we applied for visa to go to India. But it s effortless and great to cheer up their day!

    Why singapore ??!!!

Is really bad for badminton to keep letting Asia hosts the tournament.

Let Brazil/Germany/DENMARK host it for once.

I guess Brazil/Germany/Denmark can pitch in to host TC/UC 2014 if they are keen. It does not stop them from putting in their plans and request. :)

Brazil since it has so little time to organise successful events for the World Cup followed by the Olympics; could use the Thomas Cup as test event for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympics.

If Guadalajara could host a decent WJC, i am sure Rio could do one better.

USA : Waste of time trying to convince and instill interest in people who thinks badminton is a backyard sport. World Championship 2005 Anaheim was a complete failure and that's a good example of such post-tournament impact it had on USA's interest in badminton.

GBR: Please no....it's bad enough to have these jokers organise All England so badly. Thankfully Olympics didnt turn up to be so bad..

I don't mind who host the TC/UC 2014 as long as they have the full backing of that country and the respective Badminton Association.

Singapore is building a new integrated Sports Hub and will be ready in early 2014.
Its a good showcase to the world of what this Sports Hub has to offer.
And, since this is in my 'backyard', I am excited if Singapore gets to host TC/UC 2014. :)

Singapore is perfect for 2014 TC. ESG has done a terrific job in securing OSIM as the global SS sponsor. Any Singapore company that targets China as a major market will find it a bargain to be a sponsor. We have enough such companies that can afford the bill. The best part about Singapore as the venue is every team will have crowd support. Expect the tickets to be expensive. But they will be worth it.

Wah, two more years to go, so there will be plenty. You should have no problem getting help from fellow forumers here. Anyway, Singapore is known as an aircon nation, so it s easy. Just bring money. Some things are free, if you support PAP.

completely agreed on the USA bit since i'm not from GBR. some of these yahoos have never seen an asian before, seriously, let along hosting a game that's play predominantly by asians. but i would love it if US host another big event so i can see the awesome superstars from asian countries as well as european countries instead of the US players...bleh :)
