Default A String Selection test / First post pls advise

    Hi All!

I have a Yonex Aromtec 700, which I bought and strung 4 years ago with yonex bg65 string.

    I wanted to restring it but didnt know which one to get so I bought the following 3;

    Yonex BG66UM
    Yonex NBG98
    Ashaway 62

I have a few questions please; I want to compare between these three strings to figure out which string I will use in the future raquets.

Should I string them at the same tension? I'm planning on 23Lbs.

Or due to the difference of the strings should I string them at different tensions if so what are they for the above three? I consider my-self an intermedeate player.

I will by in the next 2 months one of these raquets after I get a chance to use them

    Thank you very much

all the strings above are thin. Being told that thin strings are more responsive under lower tension. I strung yellow BG 66UM on both my AT900 appear to be cool!

string choice is personnal preference, one likes may not be another, that's depend on other factors, among 3 above I pick and use NG 98, you can switch around to find your favorite string

I already bought all three. To make direct comparison i wanted to know if i should string them all at the same tensions? if so at what tension? Or if at different tensions, what would they be?

String @ your comfortable tension, everybody is different. And just a heads up, those three strings are thin strings, so comparing to your BG65, durability of all those new three strings your are going to use is not that good. But friendly to play with.

i didnt play in 4 years its just been lying there.

i played a few times this week and its still good

question can you remove a string and then re-string it?

Could i change them from one to another and then maybe change it back?

    I have tried all three.

All three are very nice strings, thin gauge with very decent repulsion. There are differences between the strings but I think you wont go wrong with any of those.

ZM 62 has the the best tension holding ability and has harder feel than the other two strings. Very nice sound and power. Due to its ultra thin gauge it is also one of the easiest string to break.

BG66 Ultimax has the best feel when freshly strung IMO. Overtime it loses tension and feel, gradually becomes "dead". Also very nice hitting sound. It is rated "medium feeling" by Yonex but feels softer than NBG98 (also rated medium feeling by Yonex).

NBG98 is a very powerful string and has the best durability of these three strings, though not stellar when compared with thicker strings like NBG95 or BG65. A bit numb feel and a bit slippery.

IMO the uniqueness of each string are better shown at higher tension. But of course, do choose the tension that is the best for you

the best way to try out the strings is to get a few of the same rackets with the same spec, then string each of the strings you've listed on those rackets at the same tension. that way, every variable will be constant except the characteristics of the strings themselves.

i did it with bg66, gosen66, and zymax62 and it was fun!!!

That would be ideal.Three of the same kind rackets i can optimize the tension on each for the string and then cross compare. Across the 3 rackets. Life is so unfare
