Okay, here's the deal: a guy offered to sell our club "top of the line" yonex feather shuttles for 10 US Dollars per tube. AND... a minimum order of 50 tubes. sounds totally sketchy to me, but could someone please tell me a way to figure out if the shuttles are of quality? I understand there was a thread on this previously, but not many for sure answers. thanks,
    gregory

AS50s cost much more than $10usd a tube even for 1000+ orders i believe. I think a member here with supplier contacts mentioned that it was in the $15-20 usd range for suppliers.

I haven't seen any place sell it for less than $30cad

in most cases, the only way to tell is to play with it.

If you're unsure then don't do it. It's not worth the risk.

Where did you meet this "guy"?

you either trust the 'guy' or you trust the 'product'. unless you have some history with this guy in terms of honest sales, that leaves just the second. sight unseen, you really need to see the entire package and at least test a few before you can make a decision. if the 'guy' isn't willing to bring the case over for your inspection, you might as well walk away from the deal.

on the other hand, $10 for a tube of shuttles is okay, and if the shuttles were decent quality, even if they were fakes, it may be worth playing with. but again, you need to see all and test some before you can commit.

Apparently, they're AS-50's direct from the factory...

Personally, this deal is way too good to be true for me.

Unless u or someone in the club knows this guy very well, I won't risk for it. There are some other brands (Tailai, Aeroplane, Yangyang) offering good quality shuttles in $11-$13 range. If u order with 50+ tubes, I am sure u can get some sort of discount as well. Therefore, the final price will be $10 around anyway, and u surely endup with some good quality stuff.

i think fake yonex feather shuttles could be the next business fraud that fakers could exploit on because the round paper sticky label on the cork is super cheap to print. The only way to avoid this is to have the sellers let you try some samples. The feathers and construction of a real AS-50 (or any high end shuttle) has to be superb. You must test the cork and shuttle flight by hitting them too. After u have finish testing the sample, peel off the white skin covering the cork and check its quality.

    http://www.racketsupply.com/shuttlecompare.htm (kwun found this link)

a highend shuttle should have cork that look like gosen gold, victor gold, silver, HL champion red label and AS-50, or there about.

I hope you guys consider the TAX part of the deal too when you buy shuttles in bulk. The dealers usually go down on the price by a dollar or two for bulk orders. But depending on where you live, if you buy from a store or dealer in your area, you might pay close to a dollar (or more) on tax per tube. Since a dozen shuttles cost around $10 in the US.

That will be a pleasant surprise when you write the check.

i belive non-profit organisations like sporting clubs are tax emempt. Bulk sellers should know how to handle those accounts.
