    New pairs - it's fair I guess. I think.

Pardon me, but is that Chen Gang in the draw vs Anupap Thiraratsakul or is it a different Chen Gang?

There's only one Chen Gang as far as I am aware of. I think he's playing in the professional badminton league in Germany.

If I was not mistaken, Chen Gang was listed as representing "DEN" (Denmark) several times on tourneys earlier this year. Now, it seems they've changed him back to repping "CHN".

Same thing with Zeng Yaqiong, who was listed under "GER" (Germany) but now back under "CHN" as well.

Tomorrow German Open will begin. im looking forward to see the U-19 European Champ and winner of French open Marc Zwiebler. Its his first real test as a senior and he will be eager to show his potential on his homeground but of course he first has to go through the qualify. Xia will meet Lin Dan and so will Gade and Chen Yu..Has anybody seen other big clashes in the forst or second round??

This will be an exciting match to watch.

Malaysian pair have a rather easy first game. But if they win , they will be playing against the winner of the above.

yes JR i missed Jens and Martins first round..it´s a very though 1st round against the chinese pair, best wishes to Jens and Martin and of course to you and Lars...Im very convinced that the danish MD pairs will prove their strengh after a weak Denmark Open...And of course I hope that Gade and the other danes can do well in MS. Gade really deserves a good result.

    Hugo maybe same as
    10 5612 - LIMPELE ~ Flandi (INA) / 8011 - HIAN ~ Eng (INA)
who were listed as playing for ENG before, when they were contracted.

And what about Cheung's comment before "There's only one Chen Gang as far as I am aware of. I think he's playing in the professional badminton league in Germany"

As to Zeng Yaqiong, maybe it was because she isn't a national squad member?

I met her in Fuzhou last year after Thomas & Uber, where she was based.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian doubles pair of Choong Tan Fook and Lee Wan Wah face a tough campaign in the German Open starting in Duisberg today. But they still harbour hopes of reaching the semi-finals.

The Malaysian pair have featured in the semi-finals in the last three successive Grand Prix tournaments, starting with the Singapore Open in August.

But it will be a tall order this time as they are likely to face newly crowned Danish Open champions Ha Tae-kwon-Kim Dong-moon in the second round.

The Koreans are on the comeback trail and the German Open is only their second international tournament since they were forced out of the third round of the World Championships because of a knee injury to Tae-kwon.

But the Koreans looked anything but sluggish in the Danish Open.

They overcame Indonesians Candra Wijaya-Halim Haryanto in three games to mark a sweet comeback to top-flight badminton. Dong-moon had also partnered Lee Dong-soo to win the Malaysian Open title recently.

Tan Fook-Wan Wah, who will open accounts against the Swedish pair of Jorgen Olsson-Imanuel Hirschfeidt today, conceded that it would be difficult against the Koreans.

“It is a tough draw for us as we have to play the Koreans in the early rounds. They have won the Danish Open title and will be hard to beat. But we are not giving up. If we can beat them, we have a good chance of going further,” said Tan Fook.

Tan Fook-Wan Wah, currently ranked 14th in the world, have a 3-3 record against the Koreans. Their last meeting was in the semi-finals of the 2001 World Championships in Seville, where Tan Fook-Wan Wah were beaten in three games.

The Malaysian pair were forced to give the Danish Open a miss after Tan Fook came down with fever.

The race to secure Olympic ranking points is the main reason why there will be a star-studded cast for the German Open this year.

Except for Indonesians Taufik Hidayat and Sony Dwi Kuncoro, all the top men singles players will be present in Duisberg.

The field in the doubles is equally strong and the only notable absentees are Danish world champions Jonas Rasmussen-Lars Paaske, who won the title last year. The Danes will place their hopes on top seeds Jens Eriksen-Martin Lundgaard.

However, Eriksen-Lundgaard, who won the Singapore Open last month, have a tough first round match against China's Sang Yang-Zheng Bo, the Indonesian Open champions.

The Malaysian singles players taking part are World Championships runner-up Wong Choong Hann, Lee Tsuen Seng, Roslin Hashim and Naza Kia sponsored Sairul Amar Ayob and Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty.
