    Hi all

I have just joined this forum and i need help with a new racket choice. I am 16 and i play in a badminton league. I am an intermediate player but i have a old racket. I am playing with a Yonex Nanometric 65. I brought it off my mate for £15 and i am finding myself not getting any better. I was wondering if you guys could help. If you know the nanometric 65 then i need a racket kind of like that but I really need more power in my smashes. I did buy a cheap carlton racket but have since found out it is a training, and a heavy racket and i can't use it. Can you guys please help me find a new racket. My budget is about £40-60.

    Thanks

Generally speaking in badminton head-heavy is more power and head-light is more speed/maneuverability. If you're looking for more power in smashes I'd suggest a head-heavy racket. The voltric 3, voltric 5 and voltric 7 on that website would all be good. All the voltrics are head heavy, but out of the three I mentioned, in terms of heavy heaviness VT5>VT7>VT3.

are the voltric's good for speed and manouverability, plus are they quite light (about the same weight as the nanometric 65)

Plus i would get the 5 or the 3 because they are the same price. What is the difference between the Voltric 5 and 3 ?

The only difference between VT5 and VT3 is that VT5 is more head heavy. The VT3 will be slightly more maneuverable than the VT5 though due to the 5's greater weight. As for string tension, I'd say 23 or 24 lbs should be good. What strings are you getting though?

If you are concerned about racket weight then the VT3 might be a better choice over VT5. Are you ordering the racket online or buying in person at the store? You could always go to the store and feel both rackets physically before making a final decision.

i never heard of yonex nanometric(maybe it's just in UK, who knows??)
but if you want more power, go for Armortec or Voltric range.....
VT3, VT5 are good choices given the budget you stated....
i dont know if you can buy VT7 with that budget....
one more, if you want more power in smash, dont put high tension for your string...
20-22lbs is good for smashing but you may lose some control...

Yes i am buying this locally in a shop so i could go in and feel them. Because the Voltric 5 and 3 are the same price but the 3 is lighter and better for speed i think i may get that. Do different strings make much of a difference

I think i will get the voltric 5. Although i have given my nanometric 65 to be restrung with yonex BG-66 strings with a tension of 21lbs

Yes BG66 is a good string. Are you getting that for the VT5 as well?

    i used BG65, BG80, BG85 and BG66Um.....
now my racket is strung with BG66Um...
what i can say is there is no big differences between BG66Um, BG85 and BG80, easy to get power from these string...
but there are some people said BG66Um cant hold tension for a long time, but you decide that yourself...
but there are some differences between BG65 and all those strings....
i feel BG65 gives less power than the strings that i've mentioned above because it's made for durability, not power solely...
so, if you want power, you can try BG66, BG80, BG85 and BG66Um...
if you have some more money, you can try Nanogy 98, it also a good string for power...
    good luck....:)

While a new racket might help...I have a feeling you may need to refine your techniques. Maybe work on your footwork as well.

Basically. I was playing against a 32 year old man. He served very deep and i didn't have the power to clear it over him to the back of the court. So he just smashed it down, drop shotted me or cleared it back and then smashed it.

I know the feeling. I've been there before. I too changed my racket to a more head heavy racket as well. It helped a bit. But I also took some lessons to correct my form.
