An "unofficial" rating of players has been published online recently. I got a message per Facebook and looked in that web page. I play only in the sixth-highest badminton league (from 10), but I found myself in this rating, and there is even a separate ranking list for my league! The strength is calculated as number, I have about 1520 in singles and 1490 in doubles. Marc Zwiebler (german Nr. 1) has 1880 and 1800. I could also open all my matches in official tournaments of last years and how they affected my rating. Does something similar exist for other countries and for international tournaments?
Yes, the search button is not actve for some reason. I open the ranking list of my district and see my name there among other plaers names, with numerical values. Than I click on the blue numbers of my rating and see the list of the opponents.
Wow, Kenneth Jonassen is still playing: http://badminton-rating.de/entwicklung.php?Id=1753784&d=1 Cool, male and female players can be compared. Are the ladies really so much weaker? (compare #1 vs #1) ? http://badminton-rating.de/compare.php?Id1=1748634&Id2=1712930
lol what a stupid thing to compare men and women and obv. schenk would not win a single match out of 100 against zwiebler.. look for williams sisters in tennis, they tried it...they would not win against a random Bundesliga male tennis player...(which is just a natural thing, nth against womens skills)
Very interesting! Do you know how the rating values are calculated? I can read German about as well as a fish can ride a bicycle, so I just don't know if that site has any details!
There is no detail how those numbers are calculated (at least I didn't find any), this makes this list kind of meaningless.
Not really - untrustworthy, certainly, but it won't be rendered meaningless until we know how the numbers are calculated. A bit like Schrodinger's cat!
I am not stupid, just curious The experienced gamblers never play a 1,01 quote - they know, the favorites lose too. I am not so sure, Juliane wouldn't win one of 100 matches against Zwiebler.
Maybe, that can explain the calculation: http://www.badminton-rating.de/entwicklung.php?Id=1762429&d=1 (one can see the rating progress after each result).
Not really, but thanks for trying to help! All rating systems are based on algorithms which are in some cases quite complicated. I'm familiar with ELO, Glinko and Microsoft's TrueSkill, but unless I can see the actual algorithms used in a system, it's hard to assess the system's validity. And trying to work out the algorithms from a small set of data is pretty tough!
