Thread: badmintons smash

How do you practice your smash so that it will never touch the net ever again? Also please give me some things I need to do because I have stopped playing badminton for more than 6 months and I have not been physically active by any means. I just surfed the net all day long.

for me, i just imagine the the net is higher than the actual net height so i can always hit over the net, that's my tactic, hope it helps

Now then, what if they still get my smash back???? How can I get more power and angle? In my opinion, if your smash is ineffective, you are not placing it accurately. You do not need to add more power or more angle, just place it better - a few inches in either direction mean all the difference between easy hitting zone and confusion/awkward return (which means your partner can finish the point, or you can come forwards to finish it yourself seeing as you are well behind the shuttle with your bodyweight coming forwards!).

Most of my steep smashes are blocked back and I ended up retrieving low in front court. My "flat" smashes, however won points easily. Do you still want to go for only steep smashes ?

Don't think... Feel
I know, it sound cheesy.
I don't actually know how high the net is... I just kinda... feel how high it is. And when I smash, I aim my shuttle in a downward angle that is barely higher than the net.
Even when quit badminton for a year(Health reasons), when I came back, I still have no trouble smashing it consistently over the net.
I always have a picture of how high the net is. So instead of trying to not smash in the net, I'm more focus on getting the downward angle that I pictured/desired.
(I'm not tall either, only 170cm, plus minus 2 cm.)

like what others have been saying, you have get the feel of it.
try smashing over and over again and i'm sure u'll eventually get the feel.
a smash need not be steep or powerful, i believe accuracy of smash is the most important.people can argue it the other way around, though.
