Default RIP Cormac Breslin - aka "Mr. Fault"

It is with great sadness that i just learned of the passing of Cormac Breslin, aka "Mr. Fault" in BC. Mr. Fault is an BWF accredited umpire and has presided over many tournaments including the 2008 Olympics.

Cormac is known for his non-nonsense strictness even when legends like Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei are under his watchful eyes.

Cormac has been a BC member since 2004. While not the most prolific of member in terms of post, he made it up with excellent 1st person insight into the matches he umpired as well as sharing his vast umpiring knowledge. It was an honor to have him share with us.

BC offers our condolences to his family.

you can find his profile here:

    A sad day.

Mr. Breslin had a presence. One of the most respected umpires in the game. A patently fair and common-sense person who had the respect and admiration of players, peers and fans everywhere. He left the game better for his presence.

He will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Among many other great matches, he was the umpire for the Kevin Cordon upset of Chen Long in the WC 2011.
He certainly came across as one of those self-confident umpires that keep games calm and moving along with no nonsense.

We fans may not always like the umpiring in a given match, but we have to be glad that there are folks who are willing to do the job for the pittance that they are paid. Thanks and Rest in Peace, Mr. Breslin.

Wow very sad to hear that. I was not able to meet him as an umpire, but I have read all his posts on badminton central. They have taught me a lot and will definitely help me on my path to becoming an umpire of his level.

51 years of age =/ He still had a long life ahead of him. Very sad to hear. May he rest in peace.

I remember him from my many travels following badminton competitions.

An experienced and firm umpire who commands respect - yet still approachable to players during tense situations. It was a privilege to be in the Arena live when he umpired the World Championship 2011 MS Final ......

    RIP, Mr Cormac Breslin.
