    Hi,

My coach has two rackets and he says that one is for plastic shuttles and the other for feathers. IS it true that some strings suit well for plastic and some for feather???

I know an "elder" that plays an old school style of badminton and he told me that if I play with nylons (plastic) shuttles, I should string my racket no more than 21-22 lbs. With feathers, the string tension is open to your preference. I'm not quite sure the reason for this, however he did tell me that I might hurt myself if I used a higher tension on my racket for nylons.

I myself only use one racket and usually string it at 23-24-lbs as I play with both nylons and feathers, more of feathers though due to training and tournys.

About your question on different strings for each shuttle respectively, it makes some sense. But looking at the info above i provided, it may also be due to the tension and not just the string.

What strings does your coach use for nylon and what strings does (s)he use for feathers? Also, what tension does (s)he use for each?

Generally, the thin strings should not be good for nylon shuttle. And I don't think high tension should be good. Therefore, stay away from .66-.68mm ones, and lower ur usual tension by at least 2lbs if u decide to use a racket mainly for nylon.

also use softer strings, and thicker strings too. Dont know why, just tends to be easier to play with.

I prefer having 2 racquets for nylon/feather. For nylon I use 20/22 or 21/23 and feather 23/25, both with BG65. There seems to a threshold with nylon where you "lose" power after a certain tension.

Usually I would use thicker string for nylon shuttles (BG-70 or so)
and I would use thin ones for feathers (BG80, 85 ...)

Nylons breaks the string faster.......I think and that's my experience.
