    yeah - that's the way how I do it, too.
    I thought these waves comes from the style how he gripped it. But I think you're right

    If you do 70 - 80% overlap, you will probably won't see the wrinkle that much. Only later, you can slowly reduce the overlap to say 50%.

    will it still reach the cone with 80% overlap?

    You only do 80% overlap at the beginning. Slowly, you will have to reduce it to 50%. I am using the same approach and i manage to get it wrap up till the cone.

    Of course, the more you stretch the higher you will reach. Cheers!
