bwf-youtube-channel: still no livestream availabe in several countries

What should BWF do about it? It has to do with German internet regulations or something regarding live broadcasts ... Vote for the Pirate Party

"There's an old broadcasting law in Germany that doesn't permit live broadcasts with more than 500 recipients without a special permission/license (which costs money of course).The law was meant to prevent pirate TV and radio stations back in the day but now is one of the laws that is holding our nation back when it comes to the internet."

Of course YouTube is a big name so authorities would notice. Either badminton europe tv doesn't get 500 viewers from Germany or they are too small to be noticed (in case you were wondering why be.tv for example can be viewed)

 

it's not a BWF 'problem'!! It's to do with countries' own laws or tv licensing rules!

 

use a proxy

 

In my short searches for proxies I've never found one that a) works, and b) allows YouTube.

 

can you provide a proxy website that can play the live broadcast?

 

Look up "foxyproxy" plug in for firefox, it does do the job. It's pretty straightforwards to set up too, you just need to find a public proxy from a country that allows streaming and set it up in the options, it's very straightforward if you use youtube for tutorials etc...

Once you have loaded the site or page, disable the proxy and it will resume at normal speed. (Usually the public proxys have a very high latency).

I obviously don't use this myself (UK allows BWF streams) but I have a friend in a country that can't access BWF and uses it

 

uk still need it when big badminton tournaments are broadcast here live.

If you got Chrome "Stealthy" is the way to go (works with FF, too). Sometimes you need to try a few times but it always gets the job done (even during Olympics to watch the BBC broadcast).
