I've heard about this but never thought it would actually happen to me...

i was in the center of the court returning a drive, the shuttle went past me to my partner behind. I moved to the left, turned by head right slightly to look back right when he lifted the shuttle up with all his might and the shuttle hit me straight in the right side of the right eye ball.

Very lucky it didn't hit my cornea, but looks like there's internal bleeding. Heading out to the doctor in a few minutes.

I'm going to wear eye protection from now on despite how dorky it looks....

    Hope it's nothing too serious.

That's why I never look back. I'd rather the shuttle hit me on the back of the head.

Hope not too serious too. Yep, like CD, I also never look back... had a couple of close calls in past where my partner's racket almost hit my face. This is also a good reason for those of us who are near sighted to wear glasses on court. My glasses has saved me countless times.

Yes I always tell weaker players I play with NEVER LOOK BACK!!!

I mean I got smashed point blank in the face before at the service line because my partner did a lousy drop.. But at least if the shot is coming from the front, you can close your eyes and have a BIT of protection...

thanks everyone, just got back from the doctor. no internal damage, just the eye membrane is bruised and bleeding. No contact lenses for a while and will just require some rest.

I'm going to take the advice and never look back from now on... haha I actually thought he already missed it too, and for that split second thought the rally was over...then bam!

In my first year of undergrad I was playing racket ball with roommate when the ball also hit me straight in the eye (same eye) My hard contact lenses completely shattered in the eye and I spent the night in the ER. Should have learned my lesson then, ALWAYS wear eye protection for those of us near sighted ppl..

At least you have your priorities straight: take picture- post on BC- THEN go to doctor. ;-)

I had it worst than that a few years ago but not due to badminton shuttle.
It was caused by excessive coughing from a bad flu. It went away in a couple of days w/o medication. Doctor said it's internal blood vessels broken. It looks bad but it's not painful.
Yeah, because of that I stopped playing double in tennis too. Imagine a tennis ball hitting your face/eye.:crying:
