Latest news that went around at the German Open, is that the Chinese squad is not participating in Taiwan. They prefer to focus on the Hong Kong and China Open, giving some opportunities to other players in Taiwan.

Also asked Gao Ling about Chen Hong's elbow injury. It did not appear to be serious, he just has to take some rest and physiotherapy after smashing too much, but as it seems he will be back and ready for Hong Kong.

Taiwan and Chinese Tapei = same. Traditionally, Chinese players have skipped the Taiwan Open partly because of political reasons. This year, many top players may have to skip it if they want to play in the two 6* tourneys that sandwich this tournament. Last year, no Chinese participated in Taiwan Open also.
But apparently JR is participating in all 3 so he will sure to be gaining some valuable points.

    right

You are right, Hugo, good explanation. Actually many European and other Asian players now also consider to participate in more event than they would usually do (i.e. also in mix, apart from doubles), now they heard the Chinese squad isn't coming. An opportunity to gather more points for the world-ranking and for some to qualify for the olympics.

Chinese players will have many trouble if they are going to taipei to run prizes. The people from the mainland of China are restricted to Taiwan by the authorities of Taiwan.
I think Chinese players can get enough points in the Hongkong and China Open. They will not loss much although they don't go to taipei.
