Kento Momota (桃田賢斗) - Future No. 1 Player in the World

I really don't like his lackadaisical attitude on court. From the comments made on many of his youtube videos, people aren't pleased with how uninterested he seems during games. Whether it's a problem with mental strength after losing points, or just a plain bad attitude, it should be dealt with immediately. His potential future as a major title holder could be at jeopardy if he keeps that up. If you look up all the vods on youtube for the 66th All Japan Championships, there seem to be quite a few MS contenders out there and one hopes he won't become complacent. Here's to hoping that he'll make history and bag some major titles.

I agree with you. I mentioned this in the first post where I said his attitude reminds me of a mix of Taufik's (lackadaisical) attitude and Lin Dan's. He really needs to be work on his concentration. In his game against Kenichi Tago, he was up 15-14 after a well-played point and in the next point he serves a very bad high serve that was deservedly punished by Tago. He won only 2 points after that. I still think his concentration will and can improve once he gets more experience on the big stage.

madara: Do you know who Momota trained under? Which club/coach and if he has been with the same coach since starting badminton? Is he part of Team A yet? Does he plan to play more next year?

yes, he is part of the team A now. If I'm not mistaken, he will be joining NTT East after graduated from high school next year.

Kento Momota is the left-handed Taufik Hidayat.

Watch this game and you can see how his footwork and some of his shots are almost like a mirror of Taufik. Check out the rally at 31:45. The quick shuffling footwork and drop deception is straight out of Taufik's arsenal.

And just to introduce this video, it's a game played yesterday in the Japan Badminton League against veteran Sho Sasaki. This is probably the most impressive match I've seen from him yet. No lackadaisical play here from him.

Yesterday he won the Yonex Estonian International tournament as the 3rd seed, the first tournament win of his career! He didn't lose a single game on the way to the final, but lost the first game of the final. His ranking should improve enough that he can start qualifying for SSP tournaments and directly entering GP and maybe even SS tournaments.
