always the vertical one for me.. if wear out usually around 2-4cm above the mid point... if a mishit usually closer to the top..sadly at 29-30p i go through a string in less than 10 games
perhaps any different in playing for those who breaks vertical string and horizontal?....

luckily i can have bg65 for around 3usd... and i could freely use one of the machine at the court near home =D
i still have no clue of why some broke vertical only and some broke horizontal. theres 2 things i could think of...
1. way of ppl hitting the shuttle
2. different tension of horizontal and vertical when stringing.Last edited by kinoko; 09-25-2007 at 02:02 PM.

I've only broken my strings twice, because I'm still a newbie/intermediate player. They both snapped near the center.

One place where strings often break prematurely is at the top of the racquet. The load placed on this spot by a power shot is fully felt with no energy being deflected. You can try this experiment :
Place your racquet over a desk or table, with one hand pressing down the handle/grip on the table edge and the frame and shaft outside the table in free space. Using your other hand drop a shuttle from a 1' height onto the top of the racquet. You will observe that the shuttle will not bounce. Now do the same but drop the shuttle unto the sweetspot, and you will observe that the shuttle will bounce. The more repulsion or bounce the better the sweetspot. Now you know why the top of the stringbed breaks easily, as it should. We call it a mishit. This test is the racquet designer's ultimate test, plus another simple oscillation test, on any prototype racquet before being released into the market.
