    Default Most challenging skill.

The most challenging skill in badminton is picking the shuttle up off the floor with your racket. I have found all the other skills pretty straightforward, but I can't pick the shuttle off the floor with my racket.

urameatball, you are like Archie Bunker: You make abuse hilarious! :-) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xPaM0A4GBBQ.

BernieR -- member since 2009 -- is it possible that you are pulling our leg? ;-). If not and you truly have a chronic shuttle-scooping apraxia, there are rehabilitation centers available. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zls0natZqFM

haha, I can't do it either... Even after the video. I use too much force so the shuttle jumps straight up instead of sticking to the racket. Using the flick with thumb and finger motion, I can't manage to pick it up at all...

it's the same with me: after i mastered the easier things, e.g. backhand-cross-clear, perfect footwork and lightning smashes, i feel now ready to learn the tough ones: picking up a shuttle...

I wouldn't attempt this until you have mastered your hand eye coordination. Since a racquet is seen as an extension of your arm, to do this, I suggest you learn to pick up the shuttle by hand first.

    This is the technique.

    1. Place the shuttle approximately 1 foot in front of you.
    2. Look carefully at the shuttle, ensure you appreciate the locality of the shuttle relative to your body (should be about 1 foot from you).
    3. Manoeuvre your body into position
    4. Gradually move your hand towards the shuttle
    4. Ensure your hand is able to grasp the shuttle
    5. Elevate the shuttle and smile on achievement.

Repeat this for 1,892 reps, taking short breaks after each rep as not to strain your hand. This will help develop your hand eye coordination over time.

Only once you have mastered this technique should you attempt picking it up with a racquet.

Well thanks to Lee Jae Bok and Fidget I have just picked up the shuttle with my racquet, thereby achieving Grand Master status! The other players are going to be massively impressed this evening if I get this right.

@ Lordrogue: the two decisive tips from Lee Jae Bok for me were: 1. use the side of the rakquet and 2. use the fingers not the wrist.

I think catching a shuttle with racket is much harder than picking up the shuttle.

    Well you're wrong.
BernieR : if you don't know - it is considered as immature behavior my most people if you make a negative comment on somebody withought backing up with supporting facts.

Well, BernieR stated he learned the scooping in just one day with the help of a training video. That it self attest it is an easy skill.

I just shared my expereince. I found it quite easy to learn to scoop the shuttle from the floor. However I have not mastered catching the shuttle in the mid air with the raquet (without assistance from the non-raquet hand) yet.

Excellent, thanks vinod: it's always been my ambition to be immature! Two massive triumphs in one day!
