I am a 15 year old who regularly plays badminton and goes to training every week. Recently I go for training 2 days in a row.. after a few times training like that I felt some discomfort in my knee, but I didn't really bothered it and I continued my trainings (then I feel some slight pain in my knee) Then one day when I was helping out my knee started to feel pain after standing for like 2 hours.. My dad then advises me to stop my training until my knee gets better. I think I must've overused my knee and cause an injury.. How long should I wait for it to heal? I really hate not exercising and (especially) de-conditioning. What exercises can I do? And what activity should I avoid? Please help me
Can you bend your knee all the way or is it swollen? Both is true then you have fluid build up. Just do to a sports doctor and get the fluid out, the doc will inject some cortisteriod for the inflamation. Then take NSAID's medicine for 2 weeks and you will as good as new. In fact after 1 week you can play already. The bad news is this will probably cost you around RM 550.
I dont think it's swollen. It is quite minor actually, I can move my leg, but if I stand/walk too long then my knee will feel uncomfortable (pain) Thanks for your suggestion anyway
I had (may still have) an injury called Patella Tendonitis. It's a very common injury amongst badminton players and feels like a very tender injury just below the knee cap. Best to have it checked out by a specialist but I personally found that anti-inflammatory creams and a PT strap helped a lot. But that's after a long period of resting too.
Yes, that looks like Patella Tendonitis and I am very sure there is fluid buildup. Just go to the doc and have it checked out. Go to a sports doctor and not your GP. Ultrasound will clearly show if there is fluid build up.
Sounds like Petallo Femoral Symdrom (PFS). There's a thread about it already... http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...164-Knee-Injury-5-months-never-healling/page2 There's a knee strap you can buy to help alleviate the pain.
If there is fluid build up then i need to have injection on my knee? and take medicines? btw r20190 how long did u rest? And if I just leave it will it get worse? man..all this sounds scary..painful..and expensive
Yes, the injection is to remove the fluid and put it anti inflammatory medicine. The thing that hurts is the initial injection to numb the area. Then you pretty much just feel some pressure. If you leave it and just take medicine, the swelling might take 1 month plus to go down. With this just a week. In fact I just had this done 2 weeks ago and I was playing 3 hours session after 1 week ... Be careful NSAID (anti inflammatory meds) can trigger some nasty gastric problem.
this kind of knee pain at my age 22, i used to rest about 6 month... till now i always use knee support for both knee for whatever workout i do even jogging... i'm suggest always do footwork training or drill or weight to strengthten your leg muscles...
It could be acid crystals building inside for those who have played long. I drink alkaline water to get rid of it. Now, no more pain.
Alkaline water ... personally I think it is a scam .. In your case I think it is more of a placebo effect. However, if it works for you then please continue drinking it.
Doc said inflamed patella tendon due to overuse. Sat I played 2 hours doubles. Sun 2 hours hard badminton training with lots of drop retrievals plus 1.5 hours singles after that. My knees swelled up and I could not bend the knees more than 90 degrees. The knee was progressive getting harder to bend for the past 3 weeks before that. So now I always use 3 steps to reach the net so that it puts less stress on the knees. A bit slower but with some anticipation and fast movement , i can handle most drops in time.
Today I went to the doctor and it turns out that my footwork, exercising, walking, running is wrong.. And it made me bow-legged He teached me the right way, some exercise and did some treatment and I guess I'm alright now. But I really regret that I did those things wrong.. and now I'm a little bow-legged Thanks for advices and thank God that is isn't anything serious
