Excuse me guys,
This has been bothering me, by stating "how long does your string last" , does it mean it breaks/snaps ? Or is it about "holding tension" wise ?
Let say if your string did last for few weeks without breaking, but the tension is loosen, would you cut it or wait till it breaks ?

It was meant to be "how long does your string last/breaks/snaps" but you made a good point that holding tension should be taken into account. A simple solution ussualy to have about 2lbs higher than the preferred tension, that way when the string starts to settle down you end up with your preferred tension

Original thread http://www.badmintoncentral.com/foru...r-strings-snap
Hi, I have a couple of Yonex NanoSpeed 9900 strung at 11 kg (24.2 lbs), Yonex BG 80. One of them is OK. The other is starting to be a problem
. The first time, the strings snapped after 5 hours of play. Yesterday after the 2 nd restring, it lasted 1 hour only
! I only did a fast tap at the net. So I switched to the other one & had no problems. The second racquet has clocked at least 15 hours. Any suggestion what's going on here. Grommet issue for this specific racquet
? I never use the racquet to pick up the shuttle from the floor, I bend to collect to it
.

Inspect where the string broke - if it broke near at the frame grommets or you might have case to take up with your stringer, they should be able to confirm if it is a grommet or threading or knotting issue.
If it broke anywhere in the middle of the string bed then have to look elsewhere for the cause. It happens sometimes. See how many pros break their strings during tournaments - they probably start each tournament with new or near new strings and so only clock up a few hours max, minutes in some cases.
Mis-hits or strong slices can weaken the strings faster than normal.
If it continues to happen and your stringer cant shed any light then consider trying another stringing service.

Update. Went in to see the stringer. He has agreed to change the strings free of charge
. Also he has changed the grommet to rule out if this is the source of the problem. I'll be using the same string, Yonex BG 80, yellow instead @ 11 kgs (24.2 lbs).He mentioned that the newer Yonex racquets had one horizontal string less compared to the previous ones at the top. He showed me one Yonex Armotec 700 which had the extra line. Therefore when smashing or during a mishit, this is the weak point. Furthermore, it has been very cold here.

Which would be analagous to 6 months for someone else. Probably better to ask after how many hours play.
Personally, a set of strings retain useful tension for 24 hours playing time (2hours/session x 3sessions/week x 4 weeks), even with an extra couple of lbs. However, they won't snap for at least 6 months. My current set are ~4 months old and they're only mildly frayed.

it also depends which shuttle is used to play, i use Aerosensa10 thats why my strings lasts for 1 month.... if someone is playing with nylon shuttle then strings won't last more than a week if playing time is 4-6 hrs a day (if playing style is offensive)

My yy bg 70 and 65 last me about 2 months with 9 hours per week of play.
And im a hard smasher.
yy 95, 98, 80, 66 are too small for playing with.

I usually break them within 5-6ish hours. I used to play tennis, and the habit of slicing carried over to my backdrops and that really destroys the string :[ Oh well. BG 80 at 25 pounds, so mreh.
