do you mean the tape that wrap the top of the grip? it doesn't really matter actually. as long as it sticks your grip together and thats it! unless you care a lot for the neatness or tidiness of your wrap, or else you are fine..

Your grip looks tidy and neat. Only the tape part looks like not properly done. You need to stretch it a little while you wrap it to the grip. But make sure not overstretch it, it will snap. I just use electric tape : easy to stretch and its wider than the normal grip tape.

because of the incline of the cone, if you just apply the tape onto the cone at the angle of the cone, eventually the tape will loop down to your grip. like some who mentioned tension, you need to pull on the tape harder so that it stretches to the point where it can curve toward the tip of the cone when you are wrapping the tape around the cone.

i find the adhesive part of an electrical tape difficult to scrape away from the cone where i tape it, or is there a particular brand and model i should look for that comes off as easily as the yonex tape without leaving any adhesive residue?

I used to change my overgrip daily when I played tennis. Same concept...stick 1" length of the tape 1/2 on the grip, 1/2 on the cone...then hold your thumb on top of it so it stays put.
Then stretch real hard so that the tape actually conforms to both your grip and the cone. Keep wrapping around like this. Once the tape meets and overlaps itself, It will be secure.
