Guys, please read this article till the very end at http://www.judithmeulendijks.nl (Column van den Brink) and plz comment! Personally I think this is an excellent way to make badminton more popular and to end the "backyard" image of the sport...!
you have to click the english flag first and then on the "column van den Brink". The article is called "Brillian idea". Hope this helps...
thats pretty cool I just hope the badminton will be very fast and agressive so that everyone will see badminton as the true fast sport it is if not then people might be just continuing to think of badminton as a boring backyard sport oh well, even if it is weak bond will be playing it good day!
What sports have we seen James Bond participate in in the Bond films, and have they become popular? I can't think of many, Fencing Judo ? any Bondophiles out there know any more?
It depends of what you call sport, I can suggest one thing he does in all of his films but that would rule out junior teams
I left out the game bird shooting he did in Goldfinger on purpose. I hadn't considered what you're thinking of as sport. Are there many tournaments? You'd get more spectators for WD than badminton does.
in from russia with love the movie started with a chess tournament, but chess hasn't become any popular
it would be excellent if somehow Bond could achieve an impressive level of badminton and then play in a movie... though fencing didn't become extra popular because of that movie, badminton would be different, because with fencing we weren't surprised to see it so fierce, but with badminton people surely would be.
I'm not going to claim that JB is responsible for the popularity of the following, but he has been involved in a lot of activities that are often considered sports; Skydiving Skiing Sledging (on a cello case) Snow Boarding Scuba Diving (I believe in fact that JB did popularise this one) Fishing (Well, he rented a boat anyway..) Flying Bungee Jumping Fencing Shooting Hunting Rock Climbing Motor Racing Ice Skatingt
fencing has that coolness factor to it. like the musketeers. i wonder how they'd do that for badminton though? certainly there are a few jump smashing (probably done with doubles instead of PB doing it, it will take him around 5years to get to any good looking form, i say hire Gade), a few leaping retrieves, etc. look at the list of sports in the movie, much of which are 'transportation' sports, ie. it brings him from point A to point B. hard to blend the badminton one-on-a-side type of sports into the movie plot. here is an idea, how about Bond goes to Brunei and plays a game with the Sultan in his private gym with solid gold scoreboard...
kwun, How do you know about Brunei Sultan? Since he has divorced his second wife (she loves badminton), there are vacant gym available in the palace for bond and the winner get solid gold Carbonex 20.
willie, him divorcing his 2nd wife is news to me, as well as the fact that the wife is a badminton lover. there were some mention of the Sultan in this thread: http://www.badmintonforum.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8347&highlight=brunei+gold
The Sultan explains the finer points of the game to Bond with his bodyguards defending smashes for reaction training. Sultan explains that badminton fitness training is part of the bodyguard's daily fitness regime. Then they get attacked by intruders; Bond has to do a runner, pushes the Sultan down a rubbish chute to elude the attackers. Bond runs off through a badminton training camp with shuttles strewn on the ground. The attackers step on the shuttles, temporarily unbalanced. Bond runs off but doesn't look properly and gets an eye injury fom a smashed shuttle with a bruised eye which is plain to see later in the film
